Violence in the Quran. Why the sheer volume?

"Because Muslims were fighting for their lives back when the quran was written!"

Ok, so then we agree the Quran was written by fighters and not "God".

"no! it was written by Allah of course!!!"

I'm confused now. Allah wasn't in the middle of all these wars and battles was he? Allah didn't have to "defend" himself, so he was free to write whatever he wanted, in fact, while Muhammad was busy slaying all domestic non-muslims, allah could have given Quran verses about the coming of the internet or anything he wanted.

Muhammads battles didn't create any NECESSITY on the part of allah right? So the argument that all the violence in the quran was written out of the necessity of the times is crazy.

If the Quran really was a timeless book written directly by God, then we should expect flawless penmanship absent the influences of the current times.

At least the clergy of another false religion (xianty) were smart enough to address this issue by making sure their book of god (bible) had a claim of "inspired by God THROUGH man".

If you claim that your book is DIRECTLY from God, we must use the highest standard of critical review. The claim that "all the murder and hate language of the quran merely mirrored the times" won't cut it because Gods direct word couldn't be constrained by any times.

Islam is the height of stupidity. Read the Quran for yourself and see.

The Qaran is so poorly written that, if it were presented today, no modern editor would publish it. The book is just abysmally disorganized and contradictory.

By reading all the passages where the Muslims are supposed to extract a "tax" on non-believers, it is obvious that the book was written as a way to strengthen and enrich Muslim society. The book talks so much about ways to make the Muslim society bigger and stronger, it is more like an earthly survival manual than a heavenly spiritual message. Whereas the Bible implores people to love their neighbor and turn the other cheek, the Qaran talks endlessly about killing all infidels, and extracting taxes on non-believers.

The word of God? Not unless he's exceptionally egotistical and greedy.

The Quran is a highly complex book of God, it has taken scholars hundreds of years to figure it out really good, you cant just say things about it by just reading it once, i had misunderstood Quran verses several times but when I read it more, it became more clearly. Holy Quran never encourages violence, Quran says to fight only and only if your religion and live is at stake. you cant just believe whatever you see on the news. you have to have an scholar explain the Quran to you more clearly since you have misunderstood it by far.

.... I'm not Muslim, but that is a patently poor argument, it was never claimed to have LITERALLY been written by Allah, parts were dictated to Mohommed by Allah/an angel, parts were accounts of his life and the current ongoings, all written down by OTHERS AROUND HIM during his life... As Mohammed didn't read or write, it's conveniently allowed that he wasn't able to directly transliterate God's word, but maybe that's what Allah wanted, the ideas through a human filter...

Or of course Allah, God, and Zeus could all not exist, but, well, you didn't make a good argument for that in this case.

it is all about quran, pls say me whay do u think god never take about fight?i dont know what do u know about god,but i can say that god is a holly fact & he want evry body come near by this fact.it is most important goal of live .this fact contain all good things in best condition that is possible,such as god is beneficent & mercifull so he want us move to him & in this mean move to beneficent & mercifull thue we become like these facts.
ok, all goal part pepole to two groups,first who are accept & second who are not accept.
group that are not accept start a fight with these fact & in spesiialy mean with god.
but if u read quran carefully u see that in first step god dont call him enemy of god,first he say they are ignorance,(pepole who do a mistake understanding about some matter) so god try to describe his goal for them clearly and want them to accept these,it is in some way like mother try to train her childeren.i most to say in quaran fighting is last way for whom that say there is another god except Allah & begin fight with islam,attack to isslam country
in the other hand accept the islam is very easy ,if you say shahadatain(i am agree that there is not a god except allah & mohammad is last mesanger of god) u become muslim.after that if u respect to rawl of islam u do best but if not nobody can say nothing to u because only god must ask for pepole works,just in some socieall rawl you most be cearfull because for example you must not to kill anybody

You can say the same thing about the Old Testament. It's full of violence, and full of orders to kill people. (Including babies, children, and pregnant women.) Practically every other line is telling you to put someone to death.
