In 2003 I was 17 yrs old and charged with a dui I served a week in jail and paid my fine for the dui? Now I never paid for the reinstatment fee to ohio. I was caught in West Va and was charged for driving on a suspended license. I called the DMV in Ohio and they said its not suspended but I need to pay the 500 dollar fine to get the license back. Can I really be charged for driving under suspension if the year was up in 04? Thanks for any response I go to court on Friday the 13th and an attorney wants 2200 to rep. me Thanks again

Until a license is "reinstated" it's essentially suspended or revoked.

Because you never had the license reinstated you were operating a vehicle illegally.

You may wish to pay the reinstatement fee...get the license...and explain your "misunderstanding" of the circumstances to the judge and save the attorney fees.

Will the judge "buy off" on that....never hurts to try!

If you were under a suspension and never reinstated then that suspension is still on the license. It has expired but it was never satisfied. So, yes.. It would still be a DUS.

you got off so lightly. less than a slap on the hand. costs about $8-10k to get your license back around here (after alchohol related suspension).
