After all, any old Tom, **** or Harry can turn water into wine with just the aid of a fermenting kit. I've never known anyone do the same in reverse.

Jesus did indeed turn water into wine, in a wedding in Cana of Galilee. The wine had run out, and so it was a miracle, being the first one Jesus performed actually. He did not need any fermenting kit - He is God! He made the world and fashioned it - remember!

Yeah, I guess it would've, but they drank wine more often than water because wine was safer to drink than water back then. Plus, it was a wedding, what's a wedding w/o drinks?;)

Because He was at at a wedding celebration in Cana. The friends of the Groom liked to drink, so did the Groom, for that matter.

It was a marketing ploy for all of christianity to come... I mean you never know when a Jesus around the house would come in handy... Or I suppose in the case he was marketing for, a Jesus "in your heart". I for one would love to have my plasma turned into pure wine on my deathbed.

Christian point of view: Because that's what the bible say.
My point of view: It never took place, water is H2O, and alcohol is methanol, ethanol etc. You need serious chemical reactions for this to happen (Which weren't known 2000 years ago).
