Cutting and other mutilation is usually a way for people who are feeling a lot of emotional pain and don't quite know how to express it - to express it via physical pain.
It sounds like there may be some things going on where you would benefit by talking with a professional. As far as the money - hopefully you have health insurance - or are covered by state health insurance under Medicare.
A good first step would be to have a conversation with your primary doctor. He/she can refer you to the appropriate professional with whom to see. It may be appropriate to start medication - this should definitely be monitored by a psychiatrist as providing medication to a teenager is not necessarily the same as doing so for an adult and has its own risks. Most of these medications only work if you take them every day and do so for a minimum of 4 to 6 weeks. Do not expect to feel better in a day.
Until then, if you ever feel like you need to hurt yourself, promise that you will call the following numbers (24/7/365). You can be anonymous.
1-800-784-2433
or
1-800-273-8255
I hope this is helpful. Chin up - there's help out there. Be well and good luck.

I can't tell you whether or not you have PTSD but I can offer a possible explanation for your confused feelings. Lots of bad things have happened to you that would bother even the toughest person. But maybe you are a naturally optimistic person and you WANT to feel happy and to enjoy life. You don't want to be sad or surrounded by death (nobody does), but maybe in your case you feel like all this misery is being forced on you at a time when you want so much to feel like a normal healthy young girl. Do you compare yourself to others around you who seem happier because fewer bad things have happened to them? If you do, don't do it, because this stuff is a normal part of human experience and they are not any better than you just because you've been traumatized and they haven't.
I agree with some of the others here - find a school counselor or a really good friend you can talk to about this. Support from others will help. And DON'T cut yourself, because then you'll give yourself scars and seeing those will just make you feel worse, trust me.

hi there!
i went through a very hard time as a teenager, i didnt go through the same situations you are, but i know how you feel.
i'm happy to hear that you are willing to get help, or counseling. only somebody with a degree can diagnose you with PTSD, so before you can figure know excatly if you have PTSD is to seek counseling. i know some things like anxiety, confusion, self mutilation are all sypmtoms of PTSD. sometimes, if you cant afford counseling, just understanding what you have can help you deal with things a little better. sometimes its always best to seek counseling, if you feel it is out of your hands. is there a school counselor you can talk to? or a principal? they can lead you in the right direction when it comes to finding a good counselor...they may even have group sessions you can go to, where you can make friends that can relate to what you are going through. but, if you really feel like this is a problem, dont hesitate to get help. it will make the rest of your life seem easier in one way or another, and we all know, one less stressful thing in this world makes a difference!

It sounds like PTSD when everything that happened rushes through your head. A lot has happened into your life but as you say you have reasons to be happy: your family and friends. The best idea would be to get counceling. Try to do it. If not stick to yahoo answers. There are a bunch of nice people here with similar situations that can help you. It is important that you get all your past of your chest, if not it is going to haunt you all your life. My prayers are with you. Argentox2@yahoo.com

I'm very sorry to hear what you've been through. If I were you, I would write. Write everything thats going wrong and everything you feel any everything thats hurting you. Please try this, especially before you cut. It has helped me tremendously. Also, you should find someone to talk to. Whether it be a close friend, teacher, school counselor, or psychologist, find someone. It helps so much just to be able to talk about it.
best of luck-sara

Sounds like teenage angst. You will outgrow it. quit focusing on your past and start focusing on your future.
However, if you feel overwhelmed all the time, it is always helpful to find a friendly ear. talk to your counselor at school, your clergyman, a personal friend, a teacher, or pick up the phone and call a hotline. look in your local telephone book and see if there is a hotline in your city.

I'm sorry to hear you struggling with your emotions. 16 is a tough enough age to go through as it is. God knew you were a strong enough person to handle everything he was going to throw at you. So, you've got great things in your future! I guarantee it.
Please please please don't cut yourself!!!! Don't worry about having to pay for counseling. There are free services out there that can help you get through all this. You should go to your school counselor and talk to them. They can send you to talk to somebody else if you don't feel comfortable talking with someone that you have to see at school.
Just let your friends and family know that you love them and that you need them right now and they can help you get through anything!!
Good luck with everything! I'll be thinking about you and praying for you!!

yeah sometimes when Im alone at night the bullsh!t runs through my head too. Life sucks, I just try to keep myself occupied. Find a good hobby to occupy your mind. I do weightlifting, I take all my problems to gym with me and work them all out.
I been through the suicidal teen phase, so feel free to email me with any questions.

death of parent, illness, are all traumatic. the school counselor or nurse or perhaps one of your teachers could give you that lift. there is really no short cut, but if you need a Friend ill be around. i lost my dad 20 years ago and it still hurts, hang on to your values and give life a fight. good luck
