Your main worry is infection, so I would definitely get it checked out. They may ask that you get your dog tested for rabies or something but that's about it. And I will commiserate ahead of time with the tetanus shots...those suckers hurt! :)

first off you can not allow two males together if they are showing aggression toward each other it will not stop. second, never get between the dogs if you can help it and never ignore it when your dog bites you he probably didn't mean to because he was in a fighting mind frame but never the less he can not be around his brother eventually they will kill one another and some one could get hurt in the process, the dogs are wonderful animals yet you must take certain precautions 2 males can not be friends if one is showing aggression they hold a grudge and will never get past it. and lastly pitbulls don't lock there jaws they just have a great deal of pounds per square inch which means they have power full jaws, so do humans but our teeth actually keep us from using the real strength we have. clean your bite and make sure you dog knows he did a bad thing.

You really should go to the doctor regarding your wound. Also, I had a similar thing happen involving two of my dogs. I made sure they understood that I got bit while trying to break up a fight between my dogs, and that my dog did not attack me or bite me on purpose....he was going for the other dog.
FYI, Pits have a tendency toward dog aggression, but this does not mean they will be aggressive toward humans. Aggression toward other animals and aggression toward humans is two completely different things. It would be a good idea to keep your dogs separated, though. Check out http://www.badrap.org/rescue/multidogs.cfm for information on how to manage a multi-Pit household. It's a great article on a great website.
Good luck!!

Have your dogs had all their shots?
Sorry to hear about this, and I'm sure you must be really conflicted about what to do. Probably the best thing is to say that you realize now that you acted without thinking - and that if there is a next time that you have to break up a fight, that you won't do it by sticking your hands in where they'll be bitten.
Most people will agree - best way to break up a fight is to pull the back legs out from the attacking dog. You really will need to educate yourself about re-socializing your dogs so that they do not fight, and managing things in your house to prevent fights - don't ever give them a reason to fight. Feed them separately, and never leave toys or chew bones down for them to get territorial over....good luck.

I would suggest that you go to the hospital. Yes, you will have to report your dog and he will most likely be quarantined for rabies even if he is up-to-date on shots, and even if he bit you accidentally (that is what they do here in NC). Are your dogs vaccinated for rabies? Hopefully so. If not then you may face post-exposure rabies shots and maybe some fines and a long quarantine of your dog.
Your dog is not completely at fault for biting you. You should never jump in and break up a dog fight b/c of the possibility of you getting bitten yourself. Not to blame you, b/c I've done it before too and I've got bitten before b/c my dog reached around to go after the dog again and my hand was in the way instead. That fight mode of any dog can create a situation like this, breed not to blame.
I wouldn't risk your own health b/c you are trying to protect your dog. Number one, dog's mouths can be full of bacteria. Most dogs that get bitten by other dogs need antibiotics to prevent infections. I would assume to have that same problem in people. Try to make it clear what happened, especially when you talk to animal control. They will most likely be less harsh b/c it is your dog. They sometimes will allow you to quarantine in your household or at a vet hospital.
Last, how old are these dogs? Are they neutered? Was this the 1st fight? I would recommend keeping these guys seperated from now on if they tend to get into it. Or getting rid of one. It isn't recommended to have 2 pits of the same sex in the same household, especially if they are both unneutered males. Unless, you are really experienced with the breed and still then you can have problems.
PS - if you don't tell them it was your dog then they will probably make you take post-exposure rabies shots b/c they will most likely know it was an animal bite, and if it wasn't your dogs (who I hope are vacccinated), then who's was it. If you don't have anyone to blame then you will have to say I don't know. I don't know equals possible rabies exposure equals a helluva lot of shots for post-exposure rabies.

I worked at a dog kennel, got my hand bit up by a Lab.
With dog bites, they just give you antibiotics and painkillers. They don't stitch them because that could actually encourage infection, and usually punctures aren't really stitchable. So, keep it clean, put on neosporin, and stock up on ibuprofen ('cause it's gonna HURT for several days even in the best case scenario). If it starts to look very red and infected, then you'll need to go in. Or if you feel numb below your arm from the bites, the dog may have damaged a nerve and that could be a problem.
And what they do to your dog depends on the local laws. Maybe they have to report it to police, maybe not. If reported to the police, the dog probably has to be quarantined, possible exception if you've got the current rabies shot records. If you say you were bit by a stray, they may require you to go through rabies shots "just in case."

You need to head to the hospital. Animal bites are serious. The wounds need to be cleaned out.
They may place your dog on a list just in case he ever does this again. Your boy sounds like he is a strong willed animal. You may want to look into some training for him and for yourself. Pits are great dogs but they do require a very secure owner.
Good luck. Let us know what happens with you.

ok, they won't do anything to your dog, they'll make a suggestion for u to get rid of it probably though. You were really rough on your dog, but let me answer your question since i'm a doctor.
Your dog's bite might've break one of your nerves making your hands week, it could be the branchial nerve which can be quite serious. You can have numbness to your fingers and swelling too. Your pit might have some disease too, you should go have a check up too just to make sure you didn't catch anything.
I get a few cases a few times a month like this, u should be lucky considering that you didn't get bite from dogs on the street downtown where i work. Good luck.

Because it is your dog the police won't do anything.(At least that's the way it is here in MO) You need to go to the hospital and have the bite checked out and get some antibiotics so you don't develop and infection. If your dog is not current on his/her shots quarantine him/her for 10 days to make sure it doesn't have rabies. I hate to say this but if the dog is attacking your other dog and biting you then maybe you shouldn't have the dog anymore. You could be setting yourself and your other pets up for more injuries or even death.

Yes you need to get the arm treated. Dog bites infect. What you do about telling them it was your dog is up to you. You didn't say how old the dogs are. If you decide to keep those dogs PLEASE get them into obedience classes for aggressive dogs. Bully breeds need TRAINING. They can make wonderful pets with the proper training but it takes someone that knows what they are doing. Bully breeds are not a good pet choice for an inexperienced person to have. They need a person that knows how to train and handle them.

You should go to the hospital. The best way to prevent an infection is to treat any bite right away and with a deep bite that means antibiotics and perhaps a tetanus shot. You will have to fill out a report at the emergency room explaining how you got the dog bite. It doesn't automatically mean something will happen to your dog.
