Well, for all the new pc...windows vista is now preinstalled on them.
windows vista is really great if your computer can handle it.. faster than xp, the animation is smoother than xp.. the aero thing..if your pc cannot handle it, just stick with xp until the day xp dies..so when that happens, you will be ready to upgrade to vista..
i'm using windows vista home premium now and i'm having a great time using it.. i don't know.... many people say that it has A LOT of bugs.. but for me it doesn't.. that's why i'm loving vista.. LOL
so good luck with your new pc with vista! have a great time using it

[Oops....didn't read your question clearly....meaning, you stated you have Vista on a new PC. At any rate, just felt I had to clarify my response. But, as if it might matter, that doesn't change any thing I said initially....below]:
Well, let's put it this way.... First off, I have *no* personal experience with Vista, so factor that into your perception of my answer, k? I have heard *nothing* good about Vista, and seems like it is mostly XP + "cosmetic fluff" + better (??) security. If you ask because you are considering upgrading your OS, my advice is....save your money! I was an early adopter of XP, and ended up spending a boatload of $$ on hardware because XP did not support *my* hardware (sound card, etc) when first released. I say - "read the book, or watch the movie"... for now...... If you are buying new, I am not sure there is a choice - thinkin I heard XP is not an option any more. Difference being, if Vista is installed on a new PC, I would hope that it has all the appropriate drivers, etc, so that it will work "out of the box" with the peripherals the new PC has installed. No guarantees if you are considering installing Vista in lieu of XP on an older system...........

Most people would really tell you Xp is better because most of the software released in the market has already been configured to work with XP. Vista has just been released a few months ago, so it is expected for some software to be incompatible with it. Xp had the same problem when it was first released, it was worst actually. It took a couple of years I think before they were able to make it stable, that's why you have SP1 and SP2 etc... But Vista, as an OS itself, is already stable (although some minor Sw arent compatible with it yet), more secured and it has a lot of utilities that would help you repair the OS if something happens to it. As a technician, I really believe Vista is better compared to XP. You might not realize that now, but make a comparison again after a couple of months from now..you'll see =)

I find it hilarious that so many people who have probably never even used vista say that XP is better. I have used both, true there are bugs, but that is only when you try to upgrade a computer already running xp. When you got the new laptop, Dell made sure all of the drivers were up to date, you should have no issue with that. Anyway, I have found vista to be much better, and not just because of the amazing UI. The gadgets are nice, even if they are ripped off of OSX, but additions such as windows live search and improved networking interfaces make vista a definite upgrade.

well i have had both and most of the people replying are just saying what everyone else is saying. here is my opinion. vista is cooler than xp but it has some flaws that can screw up your computer. but vista is very cool with windows media, picture sharing, etc. while xp is just older and not so much more "in" new advances that vista has made. xp though is somewhat flawless since it's been around for a while , and people have fixed the flaws really it's what your into that makes you decide which is better if you spend most time on your computer with music, games, and pictures vista is for you if you don't want as many flaws and don't care about the upgrade with music, etc. than you would much rather prefer vista. good luck!

I personally like Xp better after having used Xp on my laptop and spent the last month fighting all kinds of problems with my husband's pc. Vista will probably be fine this time next year, but right now it is just a pain in the butt.

I've been using Vista for a while and I have to say that after all these years since XP came out, I was expecting something out of this world! I think the more you use it, the more comfortable you will feel with it. It is more secure and has a nicer interface than XP. I could also feel it was a bit faster.
I hope you got the Ultimate version with your Dell then you can enjoy the nice transparent Aero theme.

If it came with Vista, that's OK, but if you are currently using windows XP do not switch to Vista till they get the "bugs" out.
