Christians hijacked the holiday. Before then, it was a holiday celebrating fertility and the goddess Ostara. The eggs are a symbol of fertility.

The name Easter comes from a pagan figure called Eastre (or Eostre) who was celebrated as the goddess of spring by the Saxons of Northern Europe. A festival called Eastre was held during the spring equinox by these people to honor her. The goddess Eastre’s earthly symbol was the rabbit, which was also known as a symbol of fertility. Originally, there were some very pagan (and sometimes utterly evil) practices that went along with the celebration. In our day, Easter is almost a completely commercialized holiday, with all the focus on Easter eggs and the Easter bunny being remnants of the goddess worship.

They both came to exist by means of a fertilized egg.
After that the similarity ends.
Easter was a holiday even before Jesus walked the earth. I understand the name "Easter" is an adaptation of Eostre, the name for a pagan goddess that was believed by the Anglo-Saxons.

The Easter bunny is from a pagan holiday. The Resurrection Sunday is why we celebrate Jesus on Sunday following the passover.

Watching a bit too much South Park? Actually Bunnies and Eggs have nothing to do with Jesus, they have to do with spring and fertility. They are old pre-Christian traditions. It just happens that Jesus died around the time of the beginning of Spring, so the two became linked.
