Vatican is neither a business proposition nor a spiritual setup... it is a massive religious congregation! People of all faiths of Christianity believe in the Vatican. Vatican is the holy place for most Christians. Can we turn to Vatican for spiritual guidance... no! Why?
Christianity is a following of the teachings of Jesus Christ. The essence of Christianity is summarized in the Bible. It is purely a religious following far away from what we term as spirituality.
Spirituality is traveling the path towards the inner self. It makes known the real essence of life... the real self of us... our soul atman within. We all know our soul atman has manifested this body and not vice versa. To understand the crux behind this cosmic phenomenon is termed as spirituality.
Christianity primarily believes that Jesus Christ was the son of God... the only son of God! In terms of spirituality every human being is a son of God... each one of us has the capacity and the capability to become Jesus Christ in our lifetime. This is not acceptable to Christianity wherein Jesus Christ, a true son of God Almighty manifested on Mother Earth to save human beings from further sinning.
Spirituality believes in the fact that every human being gains enlightenment (kaivalya jnana) in the last... the 8.4 millionth manifestation. Having gained enlightenment and salvation (moksha)... the liberated soul atman leaves for the kingdom of God (aka Baikuntha in Hinduism) permanently.
The concept of Heaven in Christianity is different from the concept that exists in spirituality. Heaven is but a sojourn on the cosmic path wherein souls' atmans remain in suspended animation until they get matching parents on Mother Earth. Bodily... none can go to the kingdom of heaven. Christianity motivates human beings to gain the kingdom of heaven which is not the truth. More on Christianity - http://www.godrealized.org/jesus_christ.html

If you want to get technical, "the Vatican" (more properly called, in this case, the Holy See or the curia) is the center and head of the institution of the Roman Catholic Church. It's primary function is to provide leadership; spiritual guidance is in there, but it is a secondary function. Think about it - spiritual guidance is a highly individual thing. The Pope (and through him the curia) provides a broad spiritual guide for all Catholics, but I wouldn't look to them first and only for my personal guidance.
