Wednesday I started feeling nauseous and threw up that night. Thursday I was still a little nauseous, had a headache and coughed the whole day. My temperature went up to 100.7, but over the counted medication is keeping it down. Yesterday my through started feeling sore and today it's killing me. I took some medicine for sore throats and tried some home remedies like salt water, honey tea, and lemon, but nothing as worked so far. My throat is constantly burning, and really burns when I swallow. I have a little mucus running down the back of my throat, but I'm not congested.

I'm a student and can't afford to go to the doctor if I really don't need to. So is this a case where I need to go?

Well it's been 4 days, and I'm betting you had a touch of the flu, since you threw up, the acids from your stomach probably burned your throat and the drip from the sinus is still irritating it. I would watch my temperature if I were you and if it goes up past the 100.7 which 99-100 range is usually virus, then go to the er or doctor. For your throat, try warm black tea, chicken noodle soups, and also at a drug store you can get chloreseptic spray which numbs the throat. Watch your throat, if you see white spots you need to go to the dr as it could be a throat infection or strep. Rest alot, drink tons of fluids, and try to keep the mucus out of your throat, maybe try a vaporizer in your room, inhaling warm moist air, gargle with salt water, do saline nose drops/spray, etc. Steam helps me alot with drip, you heat a cup or bowl to boiling in the microwave, sit with it in front of you, put a towel over your head down to the cup/bowl and inhale, that is if you don't have a vaporizer. Try some cough drops too, menthol helps, also zinc helps heal the throat. Make sure you get plenty of vitamin C, that helps fight virus and infections to a degree. Drink lots of fruit juices to flush the germs out too, cranberry is an excellent one. If you aren't any better at all Monday, call the doctor, or if your fever spikes call the dr or er as well.

Ah the beauty of being a poor student. :) If you are worried, there are places you can call to ask a nurse for free, and they would be able to tell you if it sounds like a virus, or something that is more serious that you would have to see a doctor. (I don't know where you are living, but I would check the phone book. The one where i live is called "ask-a-nurse) Or you could call a pharmacist too, they are very knowledgeable and would be able to recommend a medicine to take. There may be a free clinic in your area, or contact someone at your school. Usually they have doctors or nurses that you can see for free or for very little. Good luck.

Sore throat? Just mix 1/4 cup of vinegar with 1/4 cup of honey and take 1 tablespoon six times a day. The vinegar kills the bacteria

I would go if I were you. Like someone already said, it could be strep and it can be serious. Besides, you shouldn't be so uncomfortable just because you can't afford it. So you'll get a bill in the mail, what will they do if you don't pay right away? Come and give you your disease back? Take your pills away? No, just go and get what you need to get better. I hope you feel better, good luck.

Yes, this is a situation that should be evaluated by a dr.

Try one of the walk-in clinics such as what some drugstores are now offering to their customers to have this evaluated. Also, due to finances check your city's health dept to see if they offer free clinics that you can use as well.

Can you go to the on campus doctor? When I was in University, we had one, and was free of charge, you can also call a nurse for advice free of charge on yellow page.
