the cat is not abused, it was her childhood cat and when she moved out took her with her into a new house with new people and she never really adjusted and only is nice to the owner. i told her to have it come live with me but im afraid it will stress it out more, ive called vets they dont bill and they dont do plans, i feel so bad for it i dont know what to do bcuz i cant loan her any money. we bought it fancy feast to see if it would eat more of that and because it has 75% moisture instead of only like 9%. it hasnt eaten the recalled foods only friskies dry.

No one can make a diagnosis online, but for the sake of making you/the owner understand how serious this is, I'll say it SOUNDS like a combination of stress and hyperthyroidism

Cats panting is not a good sign, it's a sign of extreme stress - which certainly fits with the circumstances you've described. Eating a lot but becoming skinnier is classic sign of hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid) - more common in older cats. It can be controlled with daily tablets, but needs a blood test to diagnose.

This cat NEEDS to see a vet. To truly do the best for the cat, it's circumstances need to change (i.e the owner move to a different place or rehome the cat). I recognise this may not happen, but at the very least the cat needs to be seen by a vet. Please don't let this be a question of money. Please try to make your friend understand how important this is!

Does your friend leave her cat with those people that she is afraid off? If can't afford a vet maybe phone an animal hospital or humane society, try to get some help some place. Is the cat being mistreated by other people? there is a reason why she is always hiding. Oh, come to think of it, when my cat was sick, she was also hiding under the bed, & had a problem usuing her litter box, my cat was checked and she has diabetis, you know it could be many different things, but the symptoms are not good there is something wrong Hope you can get some help

Well i think that the cat may be not adjusting quite well with the other people in the house but over time if the people show the cat that they can nourish and play with the cat, that cat will be fine. Its either that or the cat dosent like the food its eating. Look around to see if your cat has thrown up any food over the course of time and change his food. Plus I hear that swifer wet jet has a chemical that acts like poison to the cat and other animals, think about it- the cat runs around all day then licks its paws. It could be that if you or somebody who uses a swifer wet jet to clean the floors that may be making the cat sticking its tongue out and is getting very skinny

If the cat hides all the time.. Someone may have beat it and will not come out to eat.. As far as getting skinny.. It might have worms.. I do know that if you called a vet and asked to trade services for a checkup for the cat.. Trade services bight mean that you have to clean up cat poop or what ever the Vet wants.. It's worth the trade.. Call the Vets.. And hurry..

It could be a kidney problem - that's what my cat died of. He lost a ton of weight and was very lethargic. No matter how much he ate he just kept losing weight. I would not assume your friend's cat had that unless checked out by a vet first. It could just be anxiety.

Your friend needs to get the cat to a vet. Responsible pet owners have to be able to do what is necessary to insure the pets health.

Could be caused by lots of things. I know you said she doesn't have the money to take it to the vet but it really needs to go, and SOON!

There are free clinics all over the place, & most vets will work with people to get paid off.
NO MATTER WHAT, GET THE POOR LITTLE THING TO A VET NOW!!!!!

sounds like something simiar to what my cat just went through. The vet gave her antibiotics and she got better, it was an infection (probably transferred by fleas)

If she can not afford a vet then she can not afford to have a cat. It is wrong to not get treatmant for a sick animal.
