"Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel." Isaiah 7:14, also referenced in Mathew 1:23

And then Mary goes off and call him Jesus? How does that work? And how does it fulfill a prophecy if they can't even get the frigging name right?

There are many names given to Jesus using the phrase “He shall be called,” both in the Old and New Testaments. This was a common way of saying that people would refer to Him in these various ways. Isaiah prophesied of the Messiah, “His name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6). None of these titles was Jesus’ actual name, but these were descriptions people would use to refer to Him forever. Luke tells us Jesus “shall be called the Son of the Highest” (Luke 1:32) and “son of God” (1:35) and “the prophet of the Highest” (1:76), but none of these was His name

I confess that I cheated this "time"to save a little. It is representative of my position, however.

Immanuel. It means "God is with us." The person born must know the name of God and will tell his people the messages of God he represent. Maybe Jesus was named because it is not really addressed to him and a "virgin" there does not necessarily stand for young Mary but most likely a new and younger civilization than Israel. And it is in this generation that it may happen. Jesus died without knowing the name of God except just call Him father...www.thename.ph

It means "The Lord is with us" and people did call Jesus God in the flesh, including Mary. That is the best explanation i can give you. Some day i might have all of the answers but not any time soon. Peace

Immanuel means "God with us" it is more of a characteristic then a name. "For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace."

these are also some of the other characteristics of God

It is all very simple.

I is one letter off from J so you subtract 1 letter from the word. You now have.

Jmanuel

Because you dropped the one letter m you need to swap the m and the a.

You now have.

Jamnuel

Since you moved the a up one space you have to jump to the next vowel. Giving.

Jemnuel.

mn is nearly like the plural form of m so they can be combined into a letter S

Jesuel

E & L numberically add up to Q which in ancient texts that have yet to be discovered can also be written as an S.

So you really have "Jesus".

See it is just like creation science.

All you have to do is read the Bible with faith and you'll understand.

Technicality, she only had to call "His name Immanuel" at some point in her life, that's the problem with hebrew, they didn't have a notation for literal strings. Anyway, "His name Immanue!" was like the "Oly Oly Oxenfree!" of the time really... Everyone was doing it, so it couldn't help but come true.

Well he failed to fulfill a lot of other prophecies as well which totally disqualifies him from being the "Messiah".

First of all, he would have had to been a member of the tribe of Judah and a direct descendant of King David and King Solomon. Now the genealogy of the New Testament is inconsistent. While it gives two accounts of the genealogy of Joseph, it states clearly that he is not the biological father of Jesus. One of the genealogies is through Nathan and not Solomon altogether! "And when your days (David) are fulfilled, and you shall sleep with your fathers, I will set up your seed after you, who shall issue from your bowels, and I will establish his kingdom. He shall build a house for my name, and I will make firm the throne of his kingdom forever..." (2 Samuel 7:12 - 13) "The staff shall not depart from Judah, nor the sceptre from between his feet..." (Genesis 49:10)

One of the other big things was that the messiah is supposed to have gathered up all the Jewish folk from exile and return them to the land of Israel. Obviously another thing Jesus did not do.-"And he shall set up a banner for the nations, and shall assemble the outcasts of Israel, and gather together the dispersed of Judah from the four corners of the earth." (Isaiah 11:12)

He was supposed to have rebuilt the Temple of Jerusalem and what's funny is instead of being rebuilt around the time Jesus was supposed to have lived the temple was destroyed, the exact opposite of the prophecy. "...and I will set my sanctuary in their midst forever and my tabernacle shall be with them.." (Ezekiel 37:26 - 27)

He was supposed to have dawned in an era of world peace, again the exact opposite happened. "...they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks; nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore." (Micah 4:3)

How hard is it to fulfill a prophecy when you know exactly what that prophecy was and you are recording the event 50 years after the supposed fullfillment of that prophecy has died.? Did I word that right? Since Paul was making it up as he went along how did he miss the name?

Jesus is Immanuel, that reveals in His name that He is God and He is with us.

People called Jesus with many names, but only His followers would know what was meant by His names " I am" and "Immanuel" etc. : )
