In December i took in a dog from a girl in town , pure bred jack russell, very friendly , great with kids etc. Well i noticed her k-9 teeth have been filed down. i have never seen this on a dog b 4 , anybody have any idea of why this would have been done to her?

Maybe she chewed alot when she was a pup, & damaged stuff.
I'd like to find the person who did it though & file their teeth down & see how they feel!
That's almost as bad as de clawing a cat!

You have to be kidding me. That's so mean, but maybe it's because of the child. But I have a Jack Russel and a 3 year old. Just because a dog has teeth doesn't mean you need to do that to protect a child. That's just too cruel, and I've never heard of this.

No I've never heard of this. I would think it's more likely they're worn down - is it an older dog? They can break off or get worn down, especially if the dog is a stone catcher/chewer.

I suppose you can't underestimate what people will have done to their pets - I suppose they could have been filed - to stop her bites being as painful? Tho wouldn't her teeth have been more likely to have been pulled if this were the case?

My bet is that they're just worn down - or the tips broken off if they look like quite flat ends, that can happen with stones.

i also have a jack russel that has teeth that look like they have been filed down. but the vet has never said nothing to me about them , but i also know this dog is around 10-12 years old and he dreams of rocks , boulders and as long as he can get it in his big mouth he will carry it around and growl lol . but i also think it pretty normal for a dog who like to chew alot.

actually it should never have been done because the k-9 teeth are the teeth that help them tear and chew there food but if they were getting too long they might have filed them down for medical reasons

I have no idea why it would have been do intentionally, but I have seen dogs that love to chew on sticks and carry around rocks. That dog's teeth were worn down.

possibly tooth decay or chewing. Take it to a vet to make sure she doesn't have pain from exposed nerves. I love Jack russel's I bought one for my dad. They are great w/ kids and super friendly. I'm happy to hear you took one in. Good luck they jump alot..
