On average, how long do you think it'll take? With numbing and extracting, what's your time estimate? I can manage an hour without twilight sleep, but if this is generally a 2-3-4 hour ordeal, I don't want to know!
(PS Thanks to everyone to advised me a couple of days ago to see a dentist ASAP for the infection. I did, got antibiotics, and have an extraction scheduled.)

Very rarely will it take longer than an hour! The worst I ever had was 90 minutes, and that was when I was just a year out of school. (my mistake, in case you care, was taking too long to try to "wiggle" the tooth out when it needed to be "surgically" removed.
Basically, I can't answer your question w/o knowing which tooth it is. generally front teeth take no more than 15-20 minutes including the anesthetic. those teeth behind the "i-teeth" (premolars or bicuspids as theyr'e known) will be in the 20-30 range and the molars will take 20-45 minutes. Generally upper molars take about 50% longer than lower molars cuz they have three roots rather than two.
On the other hand, upper THIRD molars (ie, wisdom teeth) are usually MUCH faster than lowers, since they often don't have much in the way of roots and you don't have that big angle of the jawbone there to pin it in.
Also, you can tack on maybe 5-15 minutes if the tooth is badly broken down... that often means that the doctor has to push the gums aside and remove some bone to get at the tooth. However, that said, I've had a lot of teeth where the patient is like, "Oh, you can't even grab a hold of it...it's so broken" and it's just a matter of finding the right point to apply pressure and it just rolls right out. I've had upper wisdom teeth that you can barely see in the mouth pop out in under 2 minutes! It's always fun to stun people with a dental appointment that's faster and easier than expected!
Good luck, and if you have any more info/questions, just email me at yahoo!

It depends on whether the tooth is impacted. I had a wisdom tooth pulled in less than 15 minutes with regular numbing injections, but an impacted tooth can take longer. The Oral Surgeon should be able to give you an idea based on your x-rays.
Getting the conscious sedation will help the surgeon if he really has to dig, because you will be far more relaxed than if you are aware of what's happening and can feel pressure on your jaw and hear the work being done. The sedative wears off very quickly and has an amnesic effect so you won't remember anything.

Unfortunatly it does depend on the difficulty of the extraction. I have seen root tips break off and take us an additional 30 minutes to fish out. But normally it takes anywhere from 10-15 minutes for the numbing to take affect and then about 15-30 for the actual extraction and post op instructions to be given. But if your dentist is like my office, he may go back and forth between other patients.

It really varies. some people are hard to numb, and that can take 20 minutes alone. Molars with long roots can present a challenge. HOWEVER...typically one extraction, with numbing is usually scheduled for an hour. An easy extraction i've seen take less than that, maybe 30 minutes with numbing. Hope all goes well, and I'm glad you got that taken care of.

As long as it takes to get that little sucker out!
Seriously it depends on the root system of the tooth. Some roots are wrapped around each other, and the tooth must be broken to be removed. It won't be a 2-3-4 our ordeal, though!

The longest I've ever stayed in the chair for an extraction was about 20 minutes.
As one of the others said it depends on how involved the extraction is.

For one tooth extraction I would say 10-15 mins. Its all over very fast you'll be surprised. Not only at the speed but also by the price. That's the scariest thing about it all.

It shouldn't take long depending if the tooth is impacted or not. If its a wisdom tooth and its impacted that may take a while. If the tooth is already exposed after anesthesia, its just a matter of pulling it out. Good luck and I hope the suffering is minimum.

If it is a regular tooth and not an inpacted molar, it does not take long at all. I had 4 teeth pulled and I had novacaine, but was awake for it and it was very fast- I'd say less than a half hour. Good luck!
