Whenever writing try to keep things simple. To be sophisticated your writing needs to be to the point. It is not HOW MUCH you say it is WHAT you say. Many students think that if they use lots of words they will get a better grade. This is not true most of the time. You need to make yourself understood and if that means using short sentences then use them.

To help with your writing skills, ask a teacher if they would help you in proof-reading your material. Proof-reading is something that you can do yourself but you will need the help of a teacher or tutor to learn what to look for.

You are very lucky that you speak three languages. Slow down a bit when writing in English because the grammar rules are a little more difficult then in Spanish.

You will do fine, just keep reading, writing and speaking the language. There are native speakers of English that don't do as well as you. :-) You will do great.

Reading is by far the best way to help your writing. However, I would suggest reading books that are well written. Just because a book may be popular or look interesting doesn't mean it's well written. I would begin by choosing books that you are interested in reading, and flow when you read them. By flow I mean you don't get tripped up on the words, or the sentences.

How to become a more sophisticated writer? That is a question I have asked myself over and over. I finally found the answer a few years ago. Sophistication is not as important as style and clarity. If your writing style is easy to read and understand then you have done your job as a writer. Over time as your vocabulary expands your writing will become more "sophisticated".

It is much easier to write well when one speaks well. Use language properly when you speak and it makes writing that much easier.

Over time, the more you read in a language, the more likely you are to write well. In the short run, you might want to get help from a tutoring center or writing center on campus, who will look over your papers and work with you to improve your writing.

Why not write in the style of Charles Dickens and use lots of decription. Although, don't overdo it as you will just be babbling on about nothing. Hope this helps xXx
