It's a dog designation made up by bad breeders to dupe an undereducated public. There is NO SUCH designation in ANY breed standard. The parent clubs of breeds prone to this label strongly prohibit it and warn against buying from anyone using this label.

Teacup is the first signal that a breeder is either a puppy mill or a backyard breeder (like Y!A member China) - someone that SHOULD NEVER be bought from.

There is no such thing as a "teacup" yorkie, (or in any breed for that matter). All Yorkies are Toy breeds. Breeders claiming to have "teacups" do so to attract buyers by claiming to have something "special".
This is an unscupulous practice because, responsible breeders breed to preserve & improve a breed as described in a written standard. Breeding to emphasize a single characteristic (i.e. smallness of size)
compromises the integrity of EVERY OTHER characteristic and the result is an unsound, incorrect dog.
It's a very dishonest and dangerous practice and a corruption of the breed.

There is no such thing as a "teacup" anything. The breed standard for a yorkshire terrier is 5-8lbs. I have a yorkie and he is 6lbs. "Teacups' are very fragile and y would u want a 3lbs dog?? Its like the size of a rat.

They are the tiniest of the Yorkies. They are really frail and can be injured easily. They seem to get sick more easily than the larger Yorkie, and can also be quite nervous. The breeders take the smallest Yorkies they can find and breed them getting yet smaller dogs from the litters to breed until they get the smallest of the Yorkies. Some of the dogs are inbred making them succeptable to illnesses. The people who breed these dogs call them Teacup Yorkie because of the very small size of the dog.

There is no classification for Yorkie in "teacup". Yorkies are toys. Period. Small dogs. Do not come in "teacup". In fact there are NO "teacup" anythings!!!!!!!!!!!! Not Poodles, not Yorkies, no breeds with "teacup". Something smaller than the breed standard would be undersized and likely not healthy.

"Teacup" is simply a sales term that irresponsible breeders use to sell puppies that are either the runt of the litter or were delibrately bred too small...smaller then the breed standard allows.
These dogs that are bred too small are very prone to serious health issues..heart, kidney, liver, etc and don't usually have very long life spans.

A "Teacup" anything is a undersized dog which will be more likely to have serious health problems.

A VERY tiny yorkie - fits in a tea cup - 4 pound or smaller i believe ??? ( don't quote me on that)
but they are proe to ALOT more illnesses & medical complications than non tea cups as they have been more inter bread in order to obtain such smal stature - therefor straining their organs etc to be more compact etc
plus a more fragile bone structure

Its one step smaller than a minature... a teacup is the smallest of all. I have a teacup poodle, she is 5 years old, weight around 6 lbs...smart. Yorkshires are great dogs, they have the heart of a large dog, but smarter....If you dont have one get it...you will not regret it. Also look at the teacup poodle, who knows....
