What, is someone lying about evolution again?
I hate it when they do that!
Aw, are you upset that you're a monkey's cousin?

Sounds like you are hung up on the word "theory." The theory of evolution is as valid as the theory of relativity, the theory of gravity and the theories of astrophysics.
You assert the truth is in the Bible. The Bible has been reinterpreted before:
--Columbus was supposed to fall off the edge of the earth when he sailed west, because the Bible does not describe a round earth.
--We should all have floated off the earth by now, because gravity is not part of the Bible.
--Galileo was almost burned at the stake for insisting the earth cirled the sun and not the other way around. (Okay, it had as much to do with the way he said it as what he said, but he escaped burning only by publicly saying the earth was the center of the universe and our solar system.)
--The field of medicine has provided immeasurable relief from suffering when the germ theory of disease (there's that word "theory" again) was accepted in place of the theory all disease was due to the biblical hand of God.
--The study of alchemy was prohibited on the basis it went against the Bible. Yet no one today refuses to drive a car using gasoline produced by chemical reactions and distillation. Yet, as late as the 1700s chemists were still accused of witchcraft because of their experiments. Today, gold really can be produced from lead through nuclear fusion. It just isn't economically justifiable. It would cost more to produce the gold than the gold is worth.
--The work of Einstein and all the other nuclear scientists is not supported by the books of the Bible, yet there is not the theological outcry against the Theory of Relativity, atomic theory or any of the theories associated with nuclear physics.
Evolution is attacked for the same reason Galileo was attacked: It places Man as just another tiny piece of the universe and not the center of the universe and the greatest achievement of a God with nothing better to do than watch one little backwater planet. Galileo placed the sun and not the earth and Man at the center of the solar system. Later astronomers took our solar system out of the center of the Milky Way galaxy. It's even looking like our galaxy isn't anything special.
Is evolution a valid explaination for life on earth? Yes. Does it negate the teachings of the Bible? No. The Bible expains our spirituality. The Bible is not concerned with how sugar is metabolized to provide energy for our muscle and brain cells. The Bible is not concerned with how the DNA sequences in a population can change over eons to produce variations in hair, eye and skin color or whether skin folicles will produce hair, feathers or scales.
And being related to a banana? Why not? I'd rather claim relationship to a piece of fruit than certain humans. And the Bible teaches we are all children of Eve.

Let us clearify that being related to something doesn't mean that you came from it.
Whether evolution or creation is correct, you ARE related to a banana in the sense that you and the banana are both carbon based life forms....well, the banana plant is a lifeform and the banana was part of it.
As far as evolution is concerned, you and the banana may or may not share a common ancestor. There was more than one puddle you know.

You heard that in church did you?
You may want to do some real research on the subject before you get on a message board and make yourself look utterly foolish to those who actually have studied evolution.
There are a myriad of people out there who have simplified and bastardized the science behind evolution either to make it look ridiculous or because they feel they need to explain it but don't know how.
There are many sources with which you can enlighten yourself. there are websites like Talk Origins that do a brilliant job of explaining the theory and showing the evidence. You can go to your local college and interview a biology professor. There are probably about 30 books on the subject both at your local library and book stores.
Please do educate yourself. for your sake, the sake of your children, and the sake of the future.

If Creation is true, then there is a Creator to Whom we are accountable. Evolution is an enabler for atheism. Evolution gives atheists a basis for explaining how life exists apart from a Creator God. Evolution denies the need for a God to be involved in the universe. Evolution is the “creation theory” for the “religion” of atheism. According to the Bible, the choice is clear. We can believe the Word of our omnipotent and omniscient God, or we can believe the illogically biased, "scientific" explanations of fools.

Wow, Bob - you've got to admit that you've asked a loaded question. (as evidenced by the overwhelming response against you).
Don't let them fool you, though. I can prove that society as a whole is not sold out to the theory of evolution. If we really believed that natural selection was the route to humanity's next step up along the evolutionary ladder we would stop trying to cure disease - why muddy our gene pool? We would encourage mutation because we may stumble upon a super human! (no mutation has EVER been found to be beneficial - only harmful - can you imagine the number of beneficial mutations needed to "create" the diversity in plant and animal life we see all around us?) And racism would be encouraged - certainly some of our racial adaptations are more beneficial than others and should be bred as often as possible into our offspring.
I, for one, choose to respect every human being as a unique creation made in the image of God. And I will worship the One Creator King - the evidence of His creation is all around us. All praise and glory to Him!

So then *poof* there's all of a sudden life makes more sense to you? OK, then maybe you should take a few science classes at a community college or high school. I completely agree that all life on Earth is related.
Here's a question for you: do you believe that you should judge not lest ye be judged? Try it sometime, and leave others' beliefs alone.

You're an impartial one, aren't ya?
No. I believe in the truth of evolution.
Do I believe the Banana tree and I are related? Yes, very infinitesimally though, less s than you and I are, as well as lees than me and an oyster.
According to your bible, Adam was procreating with himself, then his kids with each other, and we are all directly related to clay. Why is Evolution so hard to swallow again?
Oh, jus' so you know, I'm a Pagan, not an Atheist.

"Do you believe a banana is your very distant relative?"
An extremely distant cousin, yes.
Given the choice, I'd rather think of myself as related to a banana than to a creationist. Frankly, given the wacko questions you're asking, you're not in a position to be judging what is and isn't ridiculous.

You believe that giant men walked the earth, snakes spoke, a tree held all knowledge, that men came from dirt, women from a rib, that a loving "god" flooded the earth an killed all he had "made", that Egyptians can do magic tricks, and all the rest of that rot in the bible, and you tell us evolution is silly and ridiculous?

Yes, that is correct, all life on earth does share a common ancestor. However I don't believe in the "lie of evolution", I accept the fact of evolution, and recognise that the theory of evolution is the best way to explain this fact.
