It's a good point. The way I see it, these days the emphasis is way too much on how we look, our body image, and too little on actual health and fitness. To me, fitness is what the goal should be and what we should be striving for. So, if a woman (or man for that matter) weighs 200 pounds and truly is fit and healthy, then good for her. However, most women will not fall into this category and I think your point is more on the lines of "plus sizes".
Unfortunately, with looks and image being the primary goal, too often people go to extreme and unhealthy lengths to become skinny, most often not reaching the goals and ultimately giving up in frustration. If people would just adopt healthy habits and lifestyles, things like image would simply fall in line naturally.
For some reason, the fashion industry severely lags behind in responsibly promoting health. Otherwise, we'd be seeing fitness models and athletes on magazine covers instead of emaciated gaunt skin-and-bone runway models. This is one reason I think many women grow up with warped body image issues and no concept of true health and fitness.
Though I agree it's cool to be ok with one's body, unhealthy is unhealthy no matter how good we feel about ourselves. That has nothing to do with looks.

I think America is encouraging obesity. look at the fast food places they are creating hamburgers with 3-4 pieces of beef on it and adding cheese on every slice with sauce. They are biggie sizing every thing, its ridiculous and they are wondering why America's is the capital for over weight people.
On the Tyra issue I don't think she is telling people to go out and be fat, but she is saying not everyone can be a size 2 or 6. You can be healthy wearing a size 12 and some people look better with meat on them. However if your grostesquely or morbidly obese to wear you have health problems or having a hard time doing physical things then that is a problem.

We need to be more intelligent and begin to understand that being under weight or over weight isn't the ideal, it's being (as the three bears would say) just right, in the middle.
When a person exercises on a regular basis, eats healthy and limits alcohol, sweets and junk, they are doing a great job of ensuring optimum health (which is what they should be doing, instead of only looking at the outside).
Who cares about "being sexy", being health is the name of the game here. I could really get into the sexy craze, as that is way out of hand just like the weight craze too.

That's a really good point. Especially females are trying to be as skinny as the models, which has led to eating disorders. We have tried to stop this, but instead we are almost encouraging obesity, like you said. It's like saying, "Oh, don't mind the models. You're perfectly fine being 350 pounds. Go ahead, keep eating McDonalds." Things like this really bug me, and I'm a health freak, so I think that we need to start giving healthier examples of beauty, because being healthy is something we all can become.

It's tough to say that someone is overweight or obese if they are 200 lbs. Alot of these models are tall (5'10-6'0). I have a female cousin who is 6'0 and in the army at roughly 190 lbs, but she isn't obese. Some people have more muscle than others which accounts for more "weight". People need to be concerned with a healthy weight for their height rather than a so called norm in society.

For Tyra Banks to have a plus-sized model on her show is a very amazing. But I hope she doesnt pick the overweight contestant because she is an icon for many women, but Tyra would choose her for her great modeling skills. I agree with you about doing something about for yourself if you are overweight. But sometimes, these baby steps in the fashion industry in understanding those women's feelings can be a great motivation.

Madi, I think that people should look the way they want to. People shouldn't be obese, but if you are overweight, big deal. I think that people should love themselves for who they are. Maybe you should Madi, becuase me and Trina think that you need to stop making fun of your thighs and what not. Also, you should eat more. I don't think you are aneorexic but you need a lot more food and to stop counting calories. Don't be mad at us. <3
