My favourite artist is Leonardo DaVinci, then Monet, then Van Gogh.
I like Leonardo because he was not just an artist but an inventor, mathematician, scientist and left-handed as well. His paintings were lifelike, have you seen the Lady with ermine it is really beautiful.
I like Monet because he made pictures that you could look at many times and still see something new in them.
I like Van Gogh because he was a tortured soul which you can see in his paintings, my favourite is the Irises of St Remy.

Van Gogh - The one who refused to paint that which his critics wanted him to paint, and refused to adhere to the guilds and guidelines of subject matter, and thus, in essence became the "Bad Boy" of the Art World. ---Dare I?, Of course I should---, Van Gogh, was the Jack Black of his day, and Stuck it to the Man! Okay, now, go back to the beginning, of Van Gogh, and had he "participated, in the little "Groups of the day"---the "Juried Contest Groups", sure, he would have TRUMPED MONET, however, even without popularity, pomp, fame....Van Gogh did what I think every painter should do, paint what you love, not what is dictated to you. and in the style you wish, the hell with the Juries. Definately Van Gogh, although, I think Monet had a nice "Playpen" for subject of his art, and no, not the best Impressionist, OMG he did not say that.....yes, I did, J. Vance Miller, but that was a later date :), there is a reason you haven't heard of him, he was like Van Gogh, in that he shunned the "Small Snob Groups of Elite" and just drove to the mountains, and painted what he wanted to paint.

Monet, for sure. His scenes were so tranquil, while van Gogh showed so much agitation in his art. Monet was about harmony and symmetry of color; van Gogh was all vibrancy and contrasts.

HI,
I prefer Van Gogh because he is so down to earth and raw. He does not try to gloss things over and make them too pretty. I love his bold colors. Hie is an inspiration to me because even though he only sold one of his paintings during his lifetime (Red Vineyards for $80.00), he kept on any way. He did not mind asking his brother, Theo, for help. Now, today, his work sells for millions of dollars. Maybe I will be like him one day.
