the body burns calories 24 hours a day. this is the number that the basal metabolic rate represents, it is the minimum number of calories that is required for the biology to function normally. the BMR will vary from person to person

say your BMR is 1400 calories a day. then you would burn an average of 58 calories an hour at complete rest.

1400 / 24 = 58

Well hello. A160-pound person who sleeps eight hours will lose roughly 549 calories in the process. Not as much as we'd hoped, but not bad for doing nothing.

But there is better ways to burn calories while doing little For example, sitting while talking on the phone for eight hours will burn 914 calories. Driving a car for eight hours will knock off around 1,219 calories. And standing in a casino for eight hours will burn about 1,402 calories (though you may burn through some money while you're at it). Or u can do it my way get the weight bench out and start pumping some iron or a good summers jog or cycle, Of course, nothing beats good ol' fashioned exercise. If staying healthy's the ultimate goal, even a short walk can go a long way,c ye babe

depending on your weight and gender, about 50-70 calories an hour! You burn calories doing anything. it takes calories to live. so you are burning calories all day, even if you aren't specifically exercising to burn calories.
