As a guy I know that once you like a girl you never stop liking her. I'm not saying this is with him, but if a guy likes you he will try to get close to you in any way, so you thought he wanted to be friends, he thought you was thinking boyfriend.

It's simple. He asked you because he likes you and wants to find out if you like him. It was easiest for him to do it over the IM instead of in person to save face in case you said No you didn't like him.

i deffinetly think he likes you so now its all up too u. he appearently wants to know the cue when to ask u out so its all up to u . meaning how u feel. so i say tell him ur feelings. but dont be too vulernable.

because he likes you, wants to go out with you, but wont be straight out from fear of being rejected, he thinks you might not like him back or wont wanna go out with him, I bet you anything if you just be staight up and ask him out yourself, ask him if he wants to date you he wont say no and he will be very happy.
