Head of Household filing status requires that you have a dependent relative. A nonrelative may be your dependent but she will not qualify you for Head of Household.

Your girlfriend can be your dependent if she earned less than $3,300 last year, lived with you for 12 months in 2006, and you provided over half of her support.

ninasgramma is correct. One thing missing is that your relationship must not violate local law. While enforcement is nearly nonexistent, some areas have laws against unmarried couples living together. If your area has such a law, you can't claim her.

Call the tax agent in your area. They usually give that advice out free over the phone. In OH my son, who is in the USAF, was able to claim ME, his mom & his brother on his taxes. We made considerable LESS than he and he helped out with our expenses. Good Luck

yes you can, provided she has not been been claimed as a dependent on another person's tax return and provided you provided for more than half of her upkeep for 2006..

Yep! if she is not working...for sure you can.
If
She is not working
Not filing any taxes for the year
Then yes!
