I have used it for years. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. But it has worked enough times for me to say without a doubt that it is a real power, not just a fantasy or new-age wishful thinking. The only way to find out about it is to try it. I think anybody who gives it a shot will find that something is definitely going on. However people who say it always works or if it doesn't work there is something wrong with YOU are incorrect. Just like every other personal power, such as athleticism, artistic talent or even mathematical/analytical ability, it works better some times than others and you can't always control it. However just like those other abilities I mentioned, just because it isn't always consistent is no reason not to use it.
Here is how you do it:
1) Pick something you want, say a car, a companion or a job. Make sure it is something that is good for you and for people around you. Make sure it is something that isn't so outlandish that you can't believe it and yet push your boundaries a little bit, don't cheat yourself.
2) Set aside ten minutes or so during the day. Don't do more than that at first, make sure the process is relaxed. If you try to work it too hard it will not work. It's like learning how to dance, if you try TOO hard it becomes forced and unnatural.
Visualize or get the feeling of having the thing you want during this relaxed daily quiet time. Don't visualize HOW it will come to you, only visualize the result. HOW it will come is up to the universe.
Some people use the Law better by picturing something, others by just feeling the emotion of having the thing. Use the method that feels right for you. Use your imagination, try to be like a little kid who believes in magic.
3)After four or five days of visualizing once a day, say out loud, "I know that this (whatever it is you are picturing) is now true in my life. I release and let go of this and let the Law do its work."
Then let go completely. Try not to revisit it, to doubt it, to wonder about it. It may not be possible to forget about it all together but try to take your hands off it and trust. Then, see what happens. You may be very surprised at the result.

Yes. It seems that being concerned or strongly desiring something causes it to show up. I don't know how it works, and I've found out that we do not have adequate words to describe it. That may be the problem with books like The Secret. First, it's not much of a secret. Most of us do it without realizing or understanding it. Also, without proper language, it's hard to accurately explain anything, which is why they sound so smarmy.

I haven't read the book or seen the film, but from what I have read ABOUT it, it sounds just like every other new age self-help book on the market. I did a thorough critique of one written by Neal Donald Walsh and concluded that it was highly irrational and full of non-sense. I suspect, though I can't say for sure, that the Secret is not much different.

The 'secret' is no secret. It''s been known by mystics for centuries and is well known as creative visualization/focus now.
