There are no formal schools. Most drivers started in go-carts or legends cars and moved up to the Saturday night short tracks. After e few years there they advanced to a regional touring series like Hooters Cup or that level in the late models or sprints .
If lucky and can get a sponsor they might go to ARCA then to the truck series or Busch series. If they have success there they could end up on the cup level.
If you want to see what it feels like in a cup car try a driving experiance,Petty,Gordon,Jarrett, all have a driving school,NASCAR Driving Experiance or Fast Track. You can do a driving or ride along experiance.
Good Luck.
That's all I have to say about that.

There are schools you can go to, but if a driver goes to one, it is often after they have worked their way up the ranks (for example, most guys go to a road-course racing school). Many guys do start in go carts. Some guys work up through local late stocks(i.e. Hamlin). Some other guys come up through through Sprints/Midgets and race in USAC (Kahne, Stewart). Often guys will come through the ASA (Sorenson). But, no matter the road they take, the rule of thumb is ATBC. ARCA, Trucks, Busch, Cup. It used to be ABC before the advent of Trucks. Depending on experience, some levels are skipped (i.e. Montoya skipped the A, T, and B!).

There really is no formal traing progression. Some started out racing carts, some dirt bikes, some started out racing on dirt tracks.

Usually, most cup drivers start out in the truck or busch series, but not always.
