My dog just recently started doing that and he's never done it before..it's really funny actually..does anyone know why they do that?

I think it is their way of "flushing the toilet" if you know what I mean. Your dog is probably getting older and like humans is realizing that it is better to kick dirt where he/she went to the bathroom because it is less noticeable. You should be proud!

It's another way dogs mark territory. They have scent glands on the paws. Nature's "guest book" if you will.
