My neighbor and I were discussing this the other day. She is a very staunch Catholic (while I am more liberal) and believes the Bible tells exactly what happened. So, Adam and Eve get kicked out of Eden and have three kids - Cain, Abel and Seth. Cain kills Abel and is then banished by God, but marked him so that no one can harm him. Who's gonna harm him if there aren't any other people around BUT them? There had to have been others. Since I am a paleoarchaeologist, I know (or believe) in evolution. I can't grasp the idea that two humans were just plopped on Earth and expected to procreate. Wouldn't that make us all inbred brothers and sisters (and incest is against the Bible...)?
I mean, it does say in the Bible that Cain had a wife in the land of Nod (had to pull the book out to check) and it also says that Seth had a wife as well. If I read the wording correctly, it also says that after Adam and Eve had Seth, they also had a bunch of other sons and daughters...so did Seth.
So, to be honest, I can't answer your question. It really depends on what you believe - whether the Bible or other religious text or if you believe in evolution.
Edited to add: to get even freakier, think about the story of Noah and the flood. God sees Noah as a righteous man and has him build an ark to hold a pair of each animal that existed, plus Noah's wife, sons and their wives (it doesn't mention his daughters). Then, God floods the earth and kills off all of the sinful people. After the flood, the only people left alive are Noah's clan...so, if you believe in that line, are we actually decended from Noah? Where would they find others to marry and have children with if there are no other people...now that's true inbreeding!

It is commonally believed that they had sex with their brothers and sisters. Because their blood was pure there were no birth defects from this. The same had to be true of Noah's family after the flood but there was some variations there because of the wives.
Although it is considered a great taboo and many say "yuck" it is quite common today and not as many children have birth defects as is commonally believed. Not in the first or second generations anyway. 29 states now allow first cousins to marry because they have no more children with birth defects than those who are completely unrelated. The rest of the stats are considering the same laws.

I'm sorry you feel it's "crap," but I feel you're interested anyway. I detect you aren't aware that in addition to the 3 sons specifically mentioned in Genesis (Cain, Abel, and Seth), (Genesis 4:1, 2, 25  ¶And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain, 2  And she again bare his brother Abel.25  ¶And Adam knew his wife again; and she bare a son, and called his name Seth: ) and that you are unaware that Adam and Eve "begat" sons AND daughters. (Genesis 5:4  And the days of Adam after he had begotten Seth were eight hundred years: and he begat sons and daughters.) As is quite obvious , since Eve is the "mother of all living," Adams sons married their sisters, initially to start their own tribes Genesis 5: 6-31 will give the genealogy of all three sons all the way to Noah. Just remember ALL life originated with Adam & Eve.

Cm on Keagan doesn't it say man was created on the 6th day? Doesn't it say he rested on the 7th day? And doesn't it say that AFTER that 7th day he created Adam and eve. So if man was created at the beginning of the sixth day and Adam and eve were created after the 7th doesn't it mean that other people were created 2+ days before Adam and eve? It also said that Cain went to a town east of Eden called NOD and had a wife there. It's all right there in front of you to read with understanding. Also keagan what did Cain say to God as he was leaving Eden? Cain was scared to death to leave Eden, why? Read the beginning of Genesis it will take all of 3 minutes . call it up on your PC its EASY.

It was all in the family, hun.
And that was OK, because it was before the laws against it were handed down. Jacob married two sisters which the bible says is a no-no, but he did it before then so it was just fine.

Hmm after Caine Killed Able he left and picked up a wife, but the Bible never explains. Which like many other things in the bible leads to it's lack of credibility....but great literary entertainment for the masses.
but good freakin questions.

LOL, I thought about that when I was 8. I thought, "Adam and Eve were the only people on the earth, and they had a baby...When that baby grew up, who did THEY have a baby with?!"
I guess we're all a little inbred. ;)
