Batteries in a basket w/ holes in it -- crust from acid on bottom of basket -- possible fell through holes?

i am wondering if i need to clean the shelf in the closet the batteries were on.
also, how would i do that?

Rub a paste of baking soda and water into the spot. Leave it for two hours then wipe the residue away.

If that doesn't work, then try applying Coke (regular) and wiping it away with a thick cloth immediately.

baking soda nuetralizes acid but if you just wipe it down with a wet rag it should be good.
