My husband and I will be going on a trip soon, and I was wondering if anyone had recipes for high energy nutritious snacks. We will be doing lots of hiking including the Grand Canyon, Bryce and Arches and need some snacks to keep us going. Any ideas would be helpful. Thanks and God Bless!

We used to make this stuff called gork to munch on. It had raw nuts, chocolate or carob chips, dried fruit or raisens and sometimes coconut. You'll need to have some protein, such as peanut butter or hard cooked eggs, and some fruit rolls (get the natural kind). Cliff bars are also good and will give you extra energy. Take lots of water!

I pulled this recipe for you from my family site. We have tons of recipes on there. Hope you make, try & enjoy this one. It's good with milk or dry. Have fun on your trip. I personally love the Grand Canyon best.

Title: Granola

Description:
This is a granola recipe Mom shared with me.. It's so good, and I highly recommend it for leaving the most incredible smell in your house.

Ingredients:
8 Cups of Oats
4 Cups of Wheat Flour
2 Cups Sunflower Seeds (of course shelled)
1 handful of Sesame Seeds (How big of a hand is not important)
1 Cup Chopped walnuts or whatever your favorite...
1-2 Cup Honey
1/2 Cup Vegetable Oil
2 tsp Vanilla

Directions:
On a cookie sheet, cook your flour and Oats for 1 hr.

This is the exellent Part!

"IT DOES'NT MATTER HOW YOU COMBINE THE REST OF THE INGREDIENTS.."

Just make sure that the Wet ingredients get evenly distributed.

Bake Slow........ 300 deg, turning the mixture every 20 min or so... until browned, and toasted....

I usually turn it about 4-6 times....

Remove from oven and Let it set till dry...

SERVE WITH MILK!!!

Trail Mix is easy and good. Also try jerkey, you can make your own. Fruit is healthful too. Even oatmea raisin bars will be good. Sounds like a wonderful time.
