Any Church that spends billions on trappings for their priests, bishops, cardinals and popes while people in the world are starving has to considered a "CULT" by all people who are not mentally challenged.

Is what Protestantism, Judaism, Islam and other major religions thoughts of Catholicism irrelevant? Is it not what God thinks of it that counts? Besides; which goes to heaven the religion, or the people?

I am a Catholic and technically speaking I believe by definition the Catholic church does consider itself a cult. I tried to find the answer in the Cathechism, because I'm pretty sure its there, but I don't have enough time to look for it because I'm at work. I think the reason is because we worship Jesus, who is part human. Any church that worships something that is human is a cult. So for my brother in Christ above, you're part of a cult too, even though you have left the church.
As for those who don't like us, I'm pretty used to it by now. It seems almost politically correct these days to be anti-catholic. Just allow me to leave you with a quote from Archbishop Fulton Sheen, "There are not a hundred who hate the Catholic church, but there are thousands who hate what they think the Catholic church is." God bless.

I don't think they consider them a cult, but the major issue here is that, it doesn't really matter what "religion" it is, if they do not worship in the TRUE Spirit of God, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, they are a false church and an abomination against God........Pure and simple.

No, the term "cult" is usually applied to something small and "wacky" in the eyes of the person using the term. And generally references something which is thought to use brainwashing or other unfair practices to get or keep converts. The Catholic Church is too large, and been around too long, to deserve the term. As to brainwashing, however ... the Jesuits do brag something about having a boy until the age of eight is enough to keep him for life, don't they? Do you consider that brainwashing, or other unfair practices? Your call.

Catholics who view Jesus as the resurrected Lord are not a cult. It is when some start to worship statues or Mary, they may be viewed as cults. But most Catholics I know love God and do not do that stuff. Overall, as a Christian I believe they are my brothers and sisters in the Lord.

It definitely is not a cult! If you give you heart to Jesus you are going to Heaven! This is definitely true in catholicism and protestant churches!

i don't know, but it doesn't really matter to muslims because we're supposed to respect other religions. fireball226, if islam is a cult, how are other religions any different? aren't they all cults then? you're not making any sense. well, i guess the sect of islam that says that you should kill non-muslims (and some muslims!) is a cult, but they're also wrong, and the other muslims shouldn't be grouped with them.

...first you need to determine what a "cult" is... Take for example...the Words of Jesus... Do you believe on His Words...? (not the words of the Roman Church, not the words of Muhannad, not the words of the Protestant churches) ...If you believe the Words of Jesus, then you'll understand was a "cult" is... Lets take for example... The Jehova Witnesses... "they" have their own, exclusive translation of the Bible... This translation is "skewed" from all others as it has "small" suble changes in very important passages that try to exlipse the Deity of Christ.. such as... The Book of John, Chapter 1 vs. 1... "their bible" says. in the beginning was the word and the word was a god... nonsence! Now real from "any" other Christian translation... In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God... here "they" try to make you believe that God and Jesus are not Diety... then read vs. 14 in their translation...something like..."the word was with us"... nonsence. Vs. 14 says ...and the Word became flesh and dwelt among us... showing the human Diety of God in the Man Jesus, who is the Christ.
The Roman Church as spiritual "gymnastics" to preform that are not of God... There is NO WHERE in Scripture that has you pray with beads in your hands...reciting over and over about a Hebrew girl... nor is their anything in Scripture that has someone (dressed just like they walked off a chess-board) waving "smoke" and ringing bells and lighting candles. There is nothing in Scripture that give any "man" the ability to forgive sin and absolution accept Jesus...yet week and week...member of the Roman church, like sheep, go to a darkened closet, slid open a black screen and talk with a "man" who demands to be called "father"... Schripture is very clear about that..."call no man father" accept God in Heaven....see Matthew Chapter.23 vs. 9 and then this "father" gives you absolution for your sins thru a bunch of religious gymnastics you must preform...nonsence...NO Scripture support any of that !!! there is so much more you need to learn...but here is not the time or forum to do it.

Yes. I was once raised a Catholic. Any church that does not teach what is taught in the Bible accurately and does not hold God's Word as a means of authority... has grounds to be considered a cult.
