I bought two smallish coconuts. I drained them and then split them. The liquid that came out of them tasted quite bad. The coconut itself was not much better. I did put some sugar on it and that made it better. But what else am I supposed to do with them? I wanted to cut them up like pineapple and have them on the fruit tray but I don't think people would like that.

I eat coconut like that, cut and chew.
You can shred it and use in recipes. If you like.

Homemade Coconut Bon Bons

One stick of butter (real butter works better because of its texture. Margarine has so much water in it.)
One cup (or more if needed) of confectioners sugar
A cup or more of coconut

Maraschino cherries - drain them and dry them on a piece of paper towel. Cut them into fourths.

Use a stick of butter that is warm and soft. Cream the confectioners sugar in it. When it is all blended together and creamy, add a small amount of coconut and blend together again. The amount of coconut inside the bon bons is up to you. The texture should be stiff enough for you to pinch off and roll pieces the size of a small walnut without it sticking to your hands. If it is too sticky, add a little more confectioners sugar at a time until it is just right. When you have rolled a ball, pour the rest of the coconut into a dish and roll the bon bon in it until coconut sticks all over it. Place in a pretty dish and make a small indentation in the top of the bon bon. Place one-fourth of a maraschino cherry in the indentation.

If the coconuts smelled soured when you drained the juice they may be bad.Sometimes they will start to sour and feel kind of slimy on the inside.I like to make kabobs with all kinds of fruits and coconuts during cookouts.I'll crack open three nuts and cut into sections then take a spoon and dig the meat out.My kids use pineapple, mango, bananas, grapes, papaya, coconut and kiwi.

My husband is from a tropical island and they make a dish called Kelaguin. I'm not sure if that's the way it's spelled. Anyways, you take some cooked chicken breasts and chop them fine in the food processor. Then you add some lemon juice, crushed red pepper, scallions and salt if you want. There's no measuring, it's all done by taste. If you don't like scallions, leave them out. It's best to refrigerate it overnight so the flavors will blend better. It's served with tortilla chips. My sister asks my husband to make this everytime we get together for holidays.

After you split them ,you have to take the white part off of the hard shell.
You are to eat it like that in small cubed pieces.
You can also shred it to use in recipes or as a top on the frosting of a cake.
You are right though, the milk inside is nasty! I guess it is an acquired taste!

Hmm... usually the coconut juice inside is sweet, but maybe the ones you got weren't ripe yet. I'm not sure what you can do with them... but maybe if you go to www.kraftfoods.com, and type in coconut, you might find some recipes with them.
