I mean, all those disused Churches,Vicarages,Land, Gold Plates, Goblets, Stocks & Shares.
Not to mention the new steeple funds!,
There are plenty of homeless and poor and those with ill health who could be helped in God's name.

Or am I wrong ???

I am happy to see most of you agree, and perhaps the churches should do it to regain the support of their followers.

For those of you who insist that I could do it too!
Well I don't have the Gold Goblets or great buildings and land that have been paid for by parishioners, but I do my bit where I can. OK!

No, you are right. If all the churches just sold off what they are not really actively using, they could feed everyone who is hungry. Why don't they? That I cannot answer. Perhaps there is some truth to the theory that feeding the hungry only goes so far. The old thing about teaching him to fish instead of giving him a package of frozen fish sticks.

Of course, that same money could do a lot of practical education, too.

I agree with the intent of what you are saying. The church is not doing near enough to fight poverty and illness. That being said, selling off the items you mentioned and giving it to those in need is more of a band-aid than a cure. Real change has to come from the people themselves and the corrupt governments that they live under. Easier said than done.

Again, I agree. Any Church-related social activities should first meet the immediate needs of the people....however, there needs to be follow-up assistance that actually helps them change their lives as well.

Why not take the money that is used from the lottery, and use it to benefit the homeless?

There's more money in that, than in a church. I know plenty of churches that reach out to homeless people by means of food drives, giving clothing, getting housing...etc.

No, a lottery sounds much better to keep around. (Sarcasm)

I agree. The church is the people not the building. An empty building is a dead church and we should find a practical use for it.

Heck, if the Catholic church used their legal defense fund they could probably feed Zimbabwe for a year... you are correct.
