Science Diet is nothing more then a high priced supermarket brand of food. It is not better quality.

SD can be anywhere from $5 - $10 more for the same size bag as a comparitable supermarket brand.

There are a lot better foods out there.

Sorry but Science Diet IS just a high priced supermarket food despite claims to the contrary..just reading labels and comparing will tell you that..also as far as research is concerned as much "research" has gone in to foods such as Purina and Pedigree as has been by Hills, but guess what....nutritionists. Anyone who has done real honest to goodness research into foods, canine nutrition and feeding can certainly tell the difference between foods taht contain such things as corn, wheat, soy, beet pulp, by products etc and foods that contain chicken, turkey, ocean fish, lamb, eggs within the first 5-6 ingredients and don't contain the cheap allergens corn, wheat, soy...anyone who has studied canine digestive systems and knows the jaw/teeth anatomy of the dog knows the difference.
Even without intense study common sense will tell you that a carnivore should be getting more meat protein in a diet then grains.

Hills Science Plan is NOT the same low quality as supermarket brands - I can vouch that the Hills company are competent nutritionists who know what they're doing! Whereas supermarket brands are made by supermarket people, not nutritionists.

Anyway, getting back to the question, I'll just have a check for price comparisons online. Hills IS more expensive - but trust me you're getting what you pay for!

That website gives you prices for Hill's food. I'm assuming you're American, but you can choose to go UK on this site.

Hill's have spent millions of pounds developing special dietary formulations to give a correct balance of nutrients. Pet shop brands are not as good quality. If you read the ingredients on the back they'll give you the average quantity this means that some may have lots of protein other may have no protein. Other brands such as James Wellbeloved, Bakers complete are good cheaper versions. That said you get what you pay for, the price difference would depend on the size of dog ie, the daily requirement. on average I'd say approx £1 - 1.50 per day.

If you are going to change from your regular dog food to something different, make sure you do it gradually over the course of a week to 10 days...gradually decreasing the amount of regular food and replacing it with the new food.
that way it won't upset your dogs stomach as much.
