also, i find the German speakers and italian speakers tend to be slightly distant with eachther, eg bars in Bolzano where the German speakers tend to go and some mainly itlalian. some south tirolians dont speak much italian at all despite being officially italians

That's not the only part of Italy where people speak German either ... in the neighbouring Veneto region, there are around 35,000 speakers of medieval Bavarian dialects ... the linguistic diversity of Italy is unequalled by any country in Europe. You can call it Südtirol by all means, but as an Italian speaker, I prefer the term Alto Adige. I should also add that this region has become a remarkable example of autonomous self-government and peaceful coexistence of two very different languages and cultures ... by the way, not all of the people in the autonomous provinces of Trent and Bolzano speak German as a mother tongue, many speak Italian as a first language and the large majority are bilingual. The altoatesini, or South Tyroleans, are an example to all of us.

Hi I've been living in Italy 8 years now, and yes I've heard of Trentino-Alto Adige. I have been there a few times and find it very beautiful....maybe next year I'll take my summer vacation there. Any places you recommend? I work in a hotel and once in awhile get clients from the Alto Adige part, and yes a lot only speak German or speak Italian with a strong German accent. =)

The census records permit you recognize that Mandarin is the main trouble-free mom tongue, nonetheless it truly is questionable how a lot of people outdoors of Beijing certainly communicate it like a accepted language. I easily encountered a brilliant style of persons in China chatting with me in dialects that resembled Mandarin as much as German resembles English. however the chinese language government believes in national team spirit if not something, so they are going to luckily permit you recognize that absolutely everyone speaks Beijinghua as a accepted language. via the way, English is definitely spoken extra generally, in basic terms not unavoidably via people who communicate it as a accepted language. a solid factor of Europe's seven hundred million people makes use of English on a ordinary foundation, and that may not counting organization exchanges going on in English in all the different countries of the international.
