I will tell you why gas prices are so high. This is not a guess this is not speculation. This is fact. The reason gas prices are so high is that even though the oil comes from mostly foreign sources , we sell all the parts for the pipelines. The USA and don't think that we don't make them pay a premium for the parts we sell them. From the most expensive to the simplest nut or bolt they are getting stuck with over inflated prices. For example the company I used to work for does business with some of these companies. We would purchase an item lets say 10 specialty nuts and bolt for 2 dollars a set. so we are looking at a 20 bucks for all. We would then turn around and sell them to the companies for 200 dollars. They have no choice but to pay because they cannot get them from anyone else. Imagine what kind of markup on a 20,000 dollar part. That is why gas prices are so high.

In a sense because they would use at a slightly higher pace but todays cars get much better mileage than the cars of the 70's.
The real reason is GREED, look at the outrageous profits that the Exxon's and Chevrons of the world are posting, billions of dollars in each quarter, they claim supply and demand when I say that they have the supply and demand higher prices.
Why is it if the price of a barrel of oil goes up the gas pump goes up immediately, yet that increased cost isn't reflected in what is still sitting in the stations tanks. When the price of oil drops it takes months before the consumer sees it (if at all)
Congress needs to start an investigation into price gouging and we need to tell the Middle East that we will give them $10 a barrel, take it or leave it.

In a way because the faster you go, the lower your mpg, and the more gas you need. But really, I've given up on trying to figure out gas prices. It used to be if the price per barrel of oil went down, gas went down. But lately that hasn't been the case. I'm hearing about "increased demand from China," refinery fires, refineries switching over from winter to summer blend, etc etc for why gas is high. Seems like a legalized racket, pure and simple.

No, the fact that it is a dwindling resource with greater and greater usage in all areas of the world have caused higher gas prices.
Most of todays cars are relatively efficient even at higher speeds, unless we are talking about excessive speed (90+ mph).
Supply and demand, greater demand with smaller supply...prices rise.

Gas prices are not high. That is, unless you are making the same amount of money you were in 1978.

Oil Shortages are responsible for high gas prices!
Although going faster in your car wastes more gas and then you have to refill, wasting more gas!!
So I guess, They kind of are!!

Partially. The harder you push your engine the more gas it will consume. If you want the price of gas to come down, then we need to curb our consumption. Its the law of supply and demand. If the demand goes down, the supply will go up and the price will come down to encourage consumption.

the reason prices are so high has nothing to do with bush... or fast drivers...
we've had fast drivers since we've had cars so obviously that isn't it...
the reson for the high prices is because of OSHA and teh oil business..
they want more profit and tell us that becasue of our wars with the middle eastern countires that gas is high.. which is a lie gas is high because they can get away with it... plain and simple.. oil compainies wnat more and more money which is y we have the technology for electric cars but don't have them available to us...
