fentanyl--a synthetic heroin. cost varies.

The ones mentioned are all indeed strong pain meds. I have been prescribed each one. Fentanyl does weird things to my heart and it races and I feel real funny. I was on 600mg of morphine a day and it did not adequately relieve the pain. Dilaudid has never helped me at all. It did my friend when she died of cancer but did not help my mom when she did. It is a very individual thing. Everyone seems to forget about one which helps me more than any other and it is indeed also one of the stronger ones. That one would be methadone. For some reason people seem to disregard this one. It is known for lasting longer. It differs in chemical composition from morphine and heroin but offers the same effects. It was made during WW11. We had Hitler cut off from his supplies and he put his scientists to work coming up with a synthetic morphine like pain drug and they come up with methadone which has the generic name of dolophine. The name was derived from adolph. Dolophine-Adolph. When used as a pain drug it is taken every 6-8 hours.

I agree. Methadone is strong pain medicine, but only available with a prescription, only certain doctors (reluctantly) prescribe it, and most pharmacies do not carry large quantities of it. It is fairly cheap if you don't have insurance, but it was free because I do. Ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin) are the strongest OTC pain meds, but take it with food as it can cause stomach problems. IBU is very inexpensive, you can get 1000 count bottles for less than ten dollars.

The people who answered with morphine sulfate, fentanyl (which is usually a patch) and dilaudid are all correct. It all depends on the person and your tolerance and reaction to the specific drug.

I cannot use fentanyl, I had a terrible reaction to it. For me dilaudid is the best for pain. When I die, that is the way I want to go.

Over the counter drugs do not touch severe pain. If you took enough to numb severe pain, you would over dose and die.

Amoxicillian IS NOT a pain drug. It is an antibiotic...........

For over the counter, the best thing is IBUPROFIN. It doesn't need to be name brand, generic is fine. It's an anti-inflamatory, works well on headaches to toothaches to back pain. BUT of course, check with your dr first, blah blah blah. I have taken 800 mg every four hours. When I had a toothache, I took that, then tylenol every 2 hours in between.

Oh and trust me on this, never EVER take more than 800 or closer than every 4 hours.

In my experience (parents dying from cancer, etc) it would be Dilaudid. Their doctors described it as the closest thing to heroin available in the US. Cost....don't know. Their medical insurance paid for everything.
