Try jumping rope to improve your heart and lungs.
"While running or jogging, each foot absorbs up to 5 times the body weight from the force of the impact as the foot hits the ground. This force of hitting the ground can cause damage to the feet, ankles, hips and knees. But in rope skipping, the shock of hitting the ground is absorbed by both feet allowing the calf muscles to control and absorb the impact"

hey, the best thing is plyometrics. Start with box jumps, jump squats, there are a lot more things thats you could do, just search the internet for plyometrics. This will make you much more explosive. Also, just do some 40m dashes over and over.
Good luck

Hi.
Squatting, you don´t have to have a barbel to squat but it is better. Just make sure you learn how to squat correctly and after not so long you will notice a difference. Good sprinters can squat impressive weights and it is a very good overall exercise.

to be honest beyond stretching there isn't much you can do. there is no exercise that duplicates the mechanics of the body when running. to be a more an efficient runner you have to run more.
