Sadly, this group of Christians follow the Bible more accurately than any other group. They seem more hateful and intolerant because there is more hatred and intolerance in the Bible than there is "love".

I haven't watched the video yet so I'm answering based on what you just said. I cannot believe those christians would call themselves "christians" when they are out picketing funerals of gay people who have died. Doesn't christians believe in peace (meaning non-violence) and love and not judging people? People like Fred Phelps don't seem to realize that what he and his people are doing is a sign of hatred, not just simply "preaching" about what they think the bible said about homosexuality. Some christians are such hypocrites. I am Catholic and went to church. After being bashed by hateful people and conservative Christians, I found out what the Christians really are and the whole debate and I found out that so many Christians have been hypocrites and oppose what God taught us. He taught us love. Christians are teaching us to hate gay people which is the opposite of what God taught us. Christians thought they knew what they were doing and they were so into bible scriptures which they've interpreted that the bible is against homosexuality and they think they have the final say of what the bible says and how the world should work. To me, God has the final word, not the christians. I didn't want to be involved with the church with hypocrites so I left. I still believe in God. I just don't believe in hypocrites.

To me, church is a cult to brainwash people into doing anything to destroy society that would lead people to love more and the Bible is just used as an excuse and people are abusing the scriptures by twisting the words around. Christians say it's wrong to be gay because the bible says this and this and the Christians are wrong. It's not what it said or how it should be interpreted so the Bible is abused so much by hateful christians. The Bible is God's book so I don't think God would've liked that. I don't believe in cults. I only believe in God because I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for Him and He is the reason why I am a lesbian. Christians may not like it but that's the way it is. I think whoever I am is between me and God, no one else. Christians always have the nerve to barge in between me and God and don't know how to butt out. Just leave us alone! This is between ME and GOD. No one else. That's it.

I don't have to watch to know that this is Fred Phelps.

Phelps is a drug head, a sexist and has never worked an honest day's labor in his life. He essentially left his wife and kids to fend for themselves while he did drugs. And then he got his kids all involved in his scams - to raise money for more drugs.

The sad thing is that some of his kids ended up very brainwashed and joined his supposed church.

Phelps is not a Christian in the slightest. Just because someone calls themselves a Christian doesn't mean they are one. Phelps does no follow what Jesus commanded. His church was started to make money for himself.

Just another sad example of how easily deluded people can get.

We actually live near a base that got picketed by this family, and I can tell you the family that lost their son in this absurd war was devastated enough without having to deal with that BULL **** ....
their son was straight and ironically enough homophobic himself and it was his funeral that got picketed. All this family ended up doing was opening the minds to the hate that gay people go through and now they are less homophobic but more hurt that the day they had to say goodbye to their son was tainted by this NUTSOID family.

We created this video not long after attending this funeral and one other of a few service men and women that we knew . It infuriates us that men and women die every day in our service fighting a war and we still have the don't ask don't tell law, but there are family's out there that protest their funerals.
Go figure that out.

After watching the videos I am reminded that this family has picketed and protested funerals of gay people for over a decade, and few people spoke against their activities.

When Matthew Shepard was killed in October 1998, this family protested and picketed his funeral and made a website celebrating his murder, and few people spoke against their activities.

Now that the family is picketing and protesting soldiers funerals, people act as if this is a new protest and state legislatures now pass laws limiting protests against military funerals... when they were silent against their previous activities.

The words of a Lutheran pastor named Martin Niemöller who lived in Nazi Germany can best explain why this group was previously ignored.

"They came first for the Communists,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Communist.
Then they came for the Jews,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew.
Then they came for the trade unionists,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Catholics,
and I didn't speak up because I was a Protestant.
Then they came for me,
and by that time no one was left to speak up."

Sheesh, I'm not even two minutes into it and I'm already disgusted.

Now I don't mean to sound like I'm saying anything about all Christians here, but I do tend to dislike the hypocrisy that seems to run rampant in the "christian" churches. Their Jesus taught to love thy neighbor and to judge not, and yet, there is judgement on the part of quite a few "christians"... These Phelpses don't even deserve the quotation marks and lower case c.

These 'people' are... I don't want to call them freaks because that gives freaks a bad name... can't say strange, because I'm not normal...

"The message of the evil that god has determined upon you..."?!?!

GAAAHHH!!! I'm gonna go mad... I'll be back as I watch more of this crap.

Edited to add....

Sorry if I sounded blind to things like this. I typically depend on my brother to be my Gay News Source, but since he moved away to Budapest (for school) the time we have to talk isn't spent talking about hate, there's more important things in life. There's not just trolls online, you know.

Yep, I heard about them. Their website is godhatesamerica.com

All I remember is this: God hates you.

I saw one member on t.v. to talk about the picketing of the funerals, which is utterly disrespectful. She looked crazed and the words that were coming out of her mouth was pure nonsense.
What a bunch of fools.

My God...these people deserve to be called the most hated family in America. How can you chant "God hates fags" when the Bible says that we are all equal in His eyes? Especially when they sang their song, "Ashamed to be an American" I was disgusted. Are you telling me you are ashamed to be living here when people in the Middle East are going through living hell? There are gay people in the world, and there always will be, so deal with it!

Their belief is that if you are a homosexual, you will go to Hell...I think they themselves will be the ones headed there. And when they are rotting in Hell, people such as you and I will be rejoicing!
