I recognize the killing of animals under ONE circumstance only, to prevent starvation or nakedness to the elements for humans. I do not see that circumstance here. They are beautiful creatures and we SHOULD support their continuance of beauty among us by befriending them, not destroying them.

I apologize for not specifying the animals I am referring to. This was the answer I gave The Petition Site for wolves that are about to be slaughtered. I wanted to also get some feedback here. This applies to those animals that are obviously not harmful to us, but are hunted and killed simply for sport and profit.

The culling of a species is only done by professional scientists when their existence threatens the balance of another ecosystem. I know it doesn't sound rational, but it's one of those "greater good" things.

Many times certain species, like those hunted for sport, are prone to over population and if we did not reduce their numbers they would literally use up all their resources and such would reduce their populations to near extinction numbers. They share those resources so one species' over use could have negative effects on other species.
Another thing that can occur and I have studied this is there can be significant damage to livestock from wolves. This costs the farmer money (there is no such thing as a rich farmer). Secondly concerning wolves, and this can apply to almost any wild animal, people will try to domesticate these animals. Even something as simple as feeding them is dangerous. Once you do that, you have interfered with their natural instincts to go hunting or foraging and they most likely are going to return to where you fed them. Wild animals are wild and having a pack of wolves wandering into a human habited area could have serious consequences.
And these are not the only reasons, though it may seem cruel there are reasons behind killing groups of animals, like the family unit of a wolf pack.

Some Indians on the plains used to slaughter herds of bison by scaring them into stampede and they died by falling off a cliff. They did this to "harvest" the top layers for meat, skins and everything else they used from the bison. Now I am not passing judgment, saying it was necessary or unnecessary, I am just posting it for thought. But the way, what do you mean by the statement, "I do not see that circumstance here." You didn't put down any example and so it makes no sense.

The sprecies you are talking about may have been accidentally introduced to a delicate environment, and is wiping out other less common species by hunting, overgrazing, or disease.

i think trailsnail is a complete idiot. just a personal opinion but what happens when a bunch of hunters all over the world go out and kill the same species. happens every day. and eventually you've killed off the whole species. now, are you all professional scientists?

Fleas are animals too, and I have no problem with us killing them all, because they do us harm.
