I have been prescribed any number of anti-anxiety and antidepressant meds in the last 15 years. Neurontin is the first one that works consistently for me with no noticeable (haven't seen any) "negative" side-effects. I have taken Neurontin for 2 years now and wouldn't even consider a change in medication.

Neurontin affects chemicals and nerves in the body that are involved in the cause of seizures and some types of pain. The exact way that it works is unknown.
Neurontin is used with other drugs in the treatment of some types of seizures and for the management of postherpetic neuralgia (nerve pain caused by the herpes virus or shingles).

Neurontin is normally used for seizures and occasionally pain. Neurontin is a last line drug for social anxiety disorder. Generally, the relatively safe benzodiazepines and SSRIs are first line for anxiety.

since neurontin is a seizure and shingles med, i was totally frustrated when i was prescribed it for anxiety. it did nothing to relieve it. i stopped taking after a few mos. cuz of blurred vision and tremors on my left side. xanax, sinequan, and valium r the traditional meds for anxiety & r more effective. it's frustrating how doctors have a real problem about prescribing these.

Gabatril is a better medication for anxiety if you want to consider Anticonvulsants... But fist I would start with something like an SSRI (Zoloft, Lexapro, Paxil) they are generally safer
