first of all relax take a deep breath I have found that for about 8 people or more you want a pretty good sized ham I would suggest 15 pounds or more remember that you can always have left overs or you can let people take some of it home and remember that for every pound of ham you will need to let it cook for 15 minutes so for a 15 puond ham it would be about 4 1/2 hours loosely covered at 325 degrees I would suggest a smoked ham because they have a milder sweeter flavor your local grocery store should still have some I bought mine at a local krogers store and only paid aroung 18-20 dollars for it be sure that it is lean and turn it onver to check for fat soft spots because you do not want a grainy ham I always go with cumberland gap they are cheaper but they have an excellant flavor hope this helps some and remember after you get the first dinner over with all the others are a breeze

Buy a 12 to 15 pound ham, as it will shrink during baking. Bake at 350' for about 3 hours, and every half hour or so, scoop up some juices, or use some fruit juices to baste, this means pouring the liquids over the top so the top doesn't dry out. About an hour before the ham is done, sprinkle some cloves over the top, and put some pineapple slices on top. they won't slide off if you stick toothpicks through them. Make mashed potatoes, about 12 potatoes, a big green salad and buy a couple of pies, some rolls, canned peas and
a quart of vanilla ice cream. What time should I be there??
Best wishes and Happy Easter

Most hams you see in stores are half hams. Why don't you buy a whole ham if the people have big appetites. This way you'll have plenty to serve, plus have leftovers for people to take some home or for you to make a ham and bean soup with the bone. I cooked a Xmas lunch for my husband's employees for about 30 people and had no problem. Prepare some side dishes tonight so you won't have to rush everything tomorrow. Just heat in the microwave before serving. You'll do just fine. If someone offers to help, them let them. It'll take away some of your anxiety and you might learn a few tips. Happy Easter.

Well, an average serving should be 4 oz. Nobody eats that little. Triple it at least. Then take into account the weight of the bone and rind and fat, and shrinkage. That's easily a pound per person. Get a 15 pounder and keep leftovers in the freezer. You can make scalloped potatoes and ham for the next dinner!

Just grab a nice ham you only need one, carve the ham thinly and itll make it seem like they are eating more, dont be worried about cooking too much because left overs can be easily used to make a million different things.

Count on 1 lb. per person to be safe. (You can always freeze leftovers and use for other purposes later)
