My mom has been experienceing high blood pressure and a mysterious rash on her chest and back that burns. We went to the doctor and they don't know what it was and told her to stop taking BLOOD PRESSURE PILLS FOR TESTS, well she got the symptoms again on Thursday and went to a different doctor, who said that her BP was 180/100 and should take the pills. He also said the rash was from a food allergy to rich foods, etc.
Last night she got bad agian, with all the symptoms above. The first doctor wants a 24- hour urine sample on Sunday to check for rare diseases.
Anyone had something like this? It has been going on for a week now. and I feel helpless. She can't sit or stand when this happens and emergency room is no help either.

She is taking Lisinopril to stabilize her kidney function because she has diabetes, but the high blood pressure has been recent as far as I know. As for the rash, it looks bright red on her chest and on her back its spolotches of pink down her back. Her face is also ver pink when this rash comes on.

It sounds like she is having a reaction to her meds. She needs to go to a specialist. Insist the hospital do something. If you make enough noise in front of others they will do something. Maybe they can change her blood pressure meds. Good luck.

The history you've related is incomplete. Did your mother already have hypertension or is this a recent, sudden development? Was she already on antihypertensive medication at the time and if so, which one and how much? What tests did she have? Aside from the rash, does she have pain anywhere else? Incidentally, B/Ps of 180/110-209/119 are severe hypertension but not crisis. Severe HTN can cause nausea and vomiting and it's possible that this is true in your mother's case.

Despite what you've presented, you haven't given the most useful information, the key information and I have a dozen questions. I'm sure she had bloodwork done and most likely other tests and the results would be helpful. It's not your fault and I'm not blaming you.

At any rate, I doubt the rash was because of an allergy to "rich foods". If she also has headaches, sweating and heart palpitations, a remote possibilty could be a pheochromocytoma but the rash doesn't fit unless it's a reaction to a B/P med. I'm sorry I can't be of much help without a lot more information. I truly hope your mother gets a diagnosis soon.

Note to "Meep": I don't understand what you mean by "a rash fitting your description". This Asker hasn't described the rash. You have no idea what it looks like, how much of the chest and back it covers or what caused it yet you're diagnosing it as bacterial in origin. Do you have superpowers of some kind?

The rash fitting your description could be a type of bacterial rash. Bacterial rashes are an unknown cause and can vary in most cases. Your mother's consistent vomiting and blood pressure could be a result of her body trying to fight of the invading sickness. Either way, ask the doctor to give your mother a blood test and skin test. to ease her burning rash, I recommend using either ice, or calamine lotion. Have her sit in a cool bath frequently if possible and watch what she eats.

Good Luck!

Having your BP at 149/100 is high especially when you are taking metroprolol. I take it twice a day and to be honest have bouts where it would go up but not like yours. The symptoms you are having are not a good sign. I would call your Doctor in place of the ER unless he/she tells you to go there. I also would not take more than what the Dr. perscribed. Not to scare you but you may have a blockage but I'm not a Dr. Bottom line, if you feel that bad, you need to have it checked out. Good luck!
