Giggle, trying not to laugh.... If you could swallow your tongue, you should also be able to take it out of your mouth for cleaning!!! Seriously, I have instructed first aid for years and it is a well known fact that you cant swallow your tongue. Your tongue is a muscle and if you are unconscious it relaxes like any other muscle in your body. It can block your airway when it is like this cause if spreads out at the back of your throat, making it difficult to breathe. Thats why we teach you to open the airway in a first aid class. If you put a person in the recovery position the tongue falls forward and no longer blocks the airway.

Yes, or at least it seems to be possible on tv and in movies. When someone is having a seizure, they try to hold them down from thrashing around and hurting themselves, and they also try to hold their tongue so they don't swallow it.

Your tongue is attached at the bottom of your mouth. Look in the mirror. It is impossible to swallow your own tongue.

yes it is possible to swallow your tongue. that is why when someone has a fit or faints you should not lay them on there back but in recovery position.

people do, when they have seizures etc. I remember being taught to check for that in first aid (and take measures to prevent it from being swallowed)

*tries not to laugh* Um.....Last time I checked, all toungues are permanetly attched to our mouths! And if somehow somebody manged to flip their toungue backwards, upsidedown and down thier throat, it wouldn't be able to go down, because the all-knowing God attached toungues to your mouth, for the express reason of you not being able to swallow it!
