maybe jersey points are different, but this is just a speeding ticket. 95 in a 65, though...

on a road where the average speed is a solid 85.

i got a 2 point careless driving and 5 point speeding.. but i have not pleaded guilty yet, and am hoping for sum type of plea bargain.

regardless, i have thoroughly learned my lesson, and will be following all posted speed limits aggressively.

HOLY COW, that's a heck of a speeding ticket. I didn't know cars go that fast! 5 points, that's equal to vehicular homicide!!!

Anyway. They'll run your motor vehicle check about 60 days before your policy renews, OR, right after you have an accident. But they can't surcharge you for the ticket until policy renewal. (But for a five pointer, you seriously run the risk of getting cancelled.)

Some companies check driving records every renewal, some every other, and some not unless there's "activity" on the policy (such as an accident, then they may do so at or near renewal time). Runing Motor Vehicle Records (MVRs) costs the company money.

I'm not sure how the 5 points is going to relate to you personally since every state has their own point system and every insurance company in each state has their own way of looking at things.

But in general if the ticket you received doesn't require you to have say an SR-22 (which you'd need to inform your insurance company of) then the company probably isn't going to out about your ticket for quite a while.

Good luck.

It is reviewed on an annual basis for most companies. If it is deemed a "major violation" they can cancel your insurance within 7 days. (This is not common for your situation. Mostly DWI/DUI) Also, the courts will tell you that if you pay the ticket, they will not charge points against your insurance. This does not mean, however, that your insurance company won't find out. I spent years in auto insurance customer service and have come accross that situation often.
