I have a landline and 3 cell phones; can I claim the Federal Excise Tax Credit on all 4 lines?

Hello, Linda! If you fill out Form 8913 to claim the actual long-distance excise taxes you paid, then you are in essence claiming the credit on all four lines.

However, if you claim the standard deduction ($30-$60 depending on how many exemptions you claim), the number of phones/lines is irrelevant; the only qualification is that you actual DID pay some long-distance excise tax on at least one of those lines.

Check out the below links for more details. Good luck! :-)

Yes, you can take credit for all of the excise taxes you paid.

Legally, they can't claim the credit if they didn't have a phone during that period. Would it very possibly slip through? Yes, it probably would.

If you claim the flat rate, then no, you just get it once. If you itemize the amounts, then yes you can - that might or might not be worth it.
