I just purchased windows xp to do a instal recovery. will the activation of the software interfere with the existing windows xp on there?. people told me to just use a windows xp cd to do this instal recovery, but this is a NEW non activated cd. Will i have some trouble?

It should install just fine. You will just have to go through the registration process again. I have done it in the past.

the activation has nothing to do with a particular cd al of the cds are the same so dont worry about that. In fact you could sell that new number just as a license I believe.

as you said you have purchased a new XP cd, if you can manage to complete the repair installation, and even if you are asked to register again , that should not be a problem

It'll work fine as long as it's a legit copy. What happed to your original CD?
