dude, i get told this all the time.
'you might know the bible but you don't understand it with the right spirit' - ie you have read it but you didn't get it..
there are few christians if any that can understand the bible better than i can. the reason? they read it with a pre-conceived agenda, which clouds their judgement and closes their mind to possibilities of translation and interpretation and so on.
anyway, if a perfect god wrote the bible, you'd think that he'd at least edit the bits that contradict one another. and the bits that have been demonstrated to be incorrect, eg when jesus says 'truly i say unto you, that there are some of you standing here that shall not taste of death before they see me coming again in glory' - bombed out on that one...

The Bible is the inspired word of God. He wrote this book through men not exactly so we'd know He is with us but so we can live a life according to Christ and be able to get to Heaven. The people that wrote these books were prophets, and were very close to God. The amazing thing is that even over thousands of years when culture and different things change the message is still the same. And no matter how many times emperors and kings and such try to exterminate the Bible they always fail. God said His words will never pass away.

The Word of the Living God contains more information in it than "love your neighbor",
and "get baptized". The entire Plan of God, the reason for the plan, what happened before Adam and Eve came on the scene,
and why we are here, are all contained in the Writings. The reason they are not written as "Jane can run. see Jane run. Jane is a good runner", is because God is looking for each soul to make an ultimate decision of whom they choose to follow:
Satan or Christ. He is looking for a final family and those who actually do care about God enough to be in His family,
will not just desire to read "Jane ran"; they will be the disiplined students of Gods Word, who will study that Plan, and be sure they have the 7 seals of God firmly planted in their brains. A disciple is a student.
If you really care for God, you will be a disciple, or a student of Gods word and plan. Its really that simple; those who give a damn will dig into that Word and study to find themselves approved. That denotes work necessary on the part of the individual.
If you don't care, you certainly will not take the time to do the work. Its your works that make up the very clothing you will wear in the eternity. You may have called on the name of Christ and be saved, but you will be as naked as a little bird in the eternity.
There are more ways than one for shame.
The Word of God is perfect, its just not
written in a way that would make it a 10 minute read, and done with it. Each time I go completely thru the Texts in study, the complete Bible study takes approximately
14 months, and I've been a strict student of the manuscripts for about 35 years. Each time I study it, I learn something more. It grows as if its pregnant. It is written in such a way that a brilliant teacher would teach it;
and it can certainly be understood, if the person who endeavors to do it, has the will to do it. I have known 9 year old children with more Biblical knowledge than entire church congregations. Why? because they are disiplined students in it.
Remember that the Bible you read is taken from the original manuscripts, which were written in Hebrew, greek, and/or Chaldee.
So often you will need to translate a verse all the way back to its original language in order to capture the complete meaning in it.
For a very simple example, "Moses" is only a transliteration; the actual translation of Moses is "drawn up from water", which you see gives you fuller information. This is true throughout the Bible, and is only a consequence of taking what is understood in one language, and translating it into the English; somewhat can be lost in the translation of it.
I didn't mean to be so wordy (sorry);
the short answer is this:
The Bible is perfectly able to be understood by anyone who is willing and Loves God their Father enough, to do the work.
The rewards in doing it are endless. The other side of the coin is that you can just be one who likes to "play church", go to sunday mass, and then forget about God the rest of the week. A child of God will be naturally drawn to their Heavenly Father, the closest relative we have.

The Bible has no claims that it is perfect. However, we have a lot of proof that it has no errors. God does not err.
When you do not have Holy Spirit Guiding you, the Bible does not talk to you the way that it makes sense all the time. There are Bible difficulties also to people who believe,but they are all explainable when you ask from people who have studied the Bible longer.
The Bible is ancient book, but its message is as good bow as it was then. You have a free will. Use it wisely.

When you say "don't know how to read it", do you mean reading it in context? Many athiests (and others, too) seem to like to pick out verses from the Bible that sound weird; that is, until you put it back into it's context and actually read what's around it first. God's Word is perfect, but you have to remember that it was imperfect human beings who wrote it down for Him, so obviously there are going to be mistakes in the Bible (oh no! Did a CHRISTIAN just say that!? Yes, I did). It's not God's Word that is imperfect, it is our interpretation of His Word that is imperfect.

People, who say that only people who believe in the bible can understand that, are wrong (at least according to the Bible itself).
In Psalm 119:130 we read that the Bible, called the Word of God, is understandable even to the "simple."

Any book that needs to be studied as heavily as the bible gets studied, is a poorly written book. The bible is pure garbage, worthy of nothing more than a good burning.

Yeah, that's true. If you are reading the bible for just knowledge sake then it is in vain and dead to you. The Word of God is "living" and able to quicken a person's understanding of God if he is connected to God. The only way a person can truly understand the bible is to walk in the salvation of God and receive His Holy Spirit. It is the Holy Spirit which opens a person's mind to God's Word. One time, Jesus disciples asked Him, "Why do you speak to the people in parables?". He answered, "The mysteries of the kingdom of heaven are given to you, but not to them". So mysteries about the kingdom of heaven and God are only given to those truly seek after God and want to know him. God knows how to sort out those who are really for Him and those who are not.

In the same way that the Jewish religious leaders and Jesus himself told parables, so that you'd have to get to know them before the meaning was revealed, so it is with God's word. You can not understand unless you read having a perspective that only God gives. Otherwise it is foolishness. His Word is simple.
Believe in him. That's it. The rest will take care of itself.

Most people who read the Bible already sense that there is a God, they don't read it to decide if they believe. However, God is Spirit and if God/heaven/Jesus seems far out ask Jesus to open your 'Spiritual ear'. 'He who has an ear(Spiritual) let him hear'.
