I missed the documentary but the Gnostic Gospel of Mary does not have an account of an egg turned red. You can read this short document at one of the links below.

It is an apocryphal writing. So isn't significant. But it is always interesting to read this.
In the OT Elijah prophesied that a virgin will give birth & He will be named Emanuel (God with us). In Genesis 3, it is prophesied that the Seed (Jesus) of the Woman (Israel, Mary) would crush the seed of the serpent (those who scheme murder, death, etc...) The rest of us are born with the sin nature (tendency to sin).
So an egg turning a different color, there are '0' OT prophecies of that.
The Easter egg just represents the beginning of life. An egg matures into a chick then breaks free from the egg, then turns into a chicken. Also the Trinity (God the Father, Word/Son & Holy Spirit) aspect is the shell, white & yoke. As we are a body, soul & spirit.
Also, the Easter egg has some of the devil copy cats out there.

I watched the program last night 04/06/07 and I must have missed that. Saw all those people standing in line to get a bath and drink the water from the spring. If you believe the water does miracles I have a bridge I would like to sell you.
The priest takes water from the faucet, says a few words over it and now we have "Holy Water". Another miracle ?

That program was very interesting. Since that gospel was not allowed into the cannon, I doubt that it is the source of the dying of Easter eggs. That is a practice from the pagan tribes of Europe to bring luck and fertility.

Just like the "gospel" of mary, the easter egg is just something to play with.

Mary didn't have a Gospel, there are only four. In fact, there's a so-called Gospel of Judas, but is that a real gospel? Is it in the Bible? No.

Maybe that is your gospel where a miracle of yours was done.
Your eyes became red, a sign to do something bad.
