"Arab Christian women ululated and others beat out drum rhythms. One youth bounced up and down on another's shoulders, waving a candle.

Other celebrants dropped molten wax onto their faces."

Sounds like quite the party.

I think that it's a bunch of foolishness where Biblical truths have been supplanted with pagan rituals and symbolism. If they want to have a holy fire ritual they should fast and pray and ask God to send his Spirit upon them like He did in the first century instead of pouring hot wax on their faces.

Acts 2:1 When the day of Pentecost arrived, they were all together in one place. 2 And suddenly there came from heaven a sound like a mighty rushing wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. 3 And divided tongues as of fire appeared to them and rested on each one of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance.

I think there exist many unnecessary complications of sweet simplicity.

Humans seem to have an inexhaustive need to participate in detailed and involved rituals which bear no resemblance to that from which it is thought they are drawn.

I think that the Orthodox church has kept some rituals and some spirituality which many other christian faiths have lost. There is wisdom and power in tradition.

Thanks for that link. That seems like it would be a really cool thing to be part of to me. I have deep respect for the Orthodox. I have been inside their churches before and even attended an Orthodox Mass once. Very Very cool people. Peace be with you.

Interesting.

I bet the soul ofJesus is amazed at his following in 2007.

I don't think pouring wax on my face would be enjoyable.

Honestly, I find it disturbing, but not nearly as bad as the Peruvians who flogged themselves before being crucified. I'll find you a link to that.

While I may think that the myth is silly, if they get some kind of joy from it then let them have their wierdness.
