this is good question of students.
for memory to develop you can do this. have you ever noticed that why you remeber first few chapters of book than remaining chapters.Because when you start studying a book first few chapters you read the more time than the end chapters.
Revison is the key to remeber the things for longer time.
For long term memory to develop you need to the material consolidate in mind. repetitive exposure of the things in mind make things consolidated in brain.
So you read first time and revise those things before you forget. start apply those knowledge in answering questions will reatin knowledge for longer time.
Start active studying rather then passive studying like try to visualize things in your mind what you are reading rather than just reading it like newspaper.
For memory to develop you also need good healthy food and also good healthy sleep. without good sleep you cant get best out of what you study.
wish you all the best for developing good study techniques.

The best way for me is this:
a) write it down
b) read it out
c) talk to someone about it (either a person or a pet)
d) if you aren't sure or have doubts ask questions.
e) use whatever you learn in everyday practice if that is appropriate
f) relate whatever it is to something visual (like a maths equation with your teachers stripy tie) or perhaps an event that you remember well (something humorous for instance).
g) If you are studying for a test write key bits of info out in bold writing on colourful posters and hang them on your wall so you see them every day. Similarly you can put important info on your bathroom door so that when your sitting on the toilet you can read it.

There are many techniques to improving your memory. Although, it also depends on the source of the problem -- lack of interest in the material, medications, illness, ADD, a learning disability and a variety of factors that may affect a person's ability to concentrate, study or remember.

Associate it with something you would never forget. Also mnemonics are great. If you make good associations, you'll never forget things easily. Go to a local library, there are a lot of good books written on memory. Always try to associate things with physical things and picture them.... it helps a lot.

repeat what you learnt , the best is if you could write it down somewhere . The brain will tend to remember things that you've written down.

Reinforcement and continued training. Also, connecting things we want to remember with other things we have already memorized. Your oldest memories stay with you. Also, remember "Pavlov's Dogs". They seem to remember quite well!
