Yes, there is a difference between men and women in terms of how much body fat they need.

For women, they need at least 10%-14% and men need at least 2%-6% body fat just so their body can function normally.

Athletes tend to keep their body fat levels quite low, partly due to having such a high muscle mass. Usually female athletes have around 14%-18% body fat and male athletes keep their body fat around 6%-10%.

The body fat percentage for an average healthy woman is 18%-30% and for men it is 10%-22%.

Then the cut off point in women is 30%-33% (depending on age) and 22%-25% for men (depending on age).

We are an appearance focused culture. I hope you feel comfortable rather than being concerned about fat percentages.

Different people have different needs. An active or pregnant women might need more fat on their body than someone else.

The BMI is a good test to understand your range.

A healthy % for men is 17-20, for women it's 20-25%. Nature intended women to have higher for child bearing.
