As mentioned, it's already cooked, so just eat as is, or reheat ... generally it's a mild fish, like pollock, etc., pressed into shapes.

I love it myself, but only if it's the right kind, which sadly is getting harder to find... cheap meal too.
"Louis Kemp" used to make the good version, and though Safeway doesn't carry that one now they do have one new brand that's good (sorry, can't remember name).

The ones you most often see though have a VERY-red edging color and those are horrible!... taste to me like someone went wild with some really untasty artificial sweetener or something... can't even eat those.

Anyway, I usually have my fake crab just warmed up in the microwave. Then we (even all the guys) like it with an Asian-flavored kind of dipping sauce:

Ginger Dipping Sauce

rice vinegar
(I used to use 1/4 cup of "red" Chinese vinegar, but can't find now so just use regular rice vinegar, and a little less... maybe add a bit of Balsamic vinegar to give a slightly diff. taste)

2 T light soy sauce
(it's thinner, less acidic compared to regular soy sauce... it's slightly sweet & less salty)

2 t sugar

1 T grated (fresh) ginger

several drops of chili oil (more if you like spicey)

Combine all ingredients, stirring until sugar dissolves.
(leftovers or excess can also be put in freezer in ziplocks and brought to room temp. when needed)

(This is a good dipping sauce for gyoza, and used in other ways too --even thickened with cornstarch for stir-fries, etc.). I can whip it up any time too because all the ingredients are staples --and I keep a finger of fresh ginger in a baggie the freezer all the time.)

How To Cook Imitation Crab

Yes it is and I consider it quite an odd little creation there. Do not make the mistake I made the first time I bought imitation crab meat. I was under the assumption it would behave like real crab meat. I put it in some water to heat for a few minutes, turned my back, and ended up something that could best described as mashed crabby puff. Every filler took on a hydrating life of its own lol. So again, yes it is already cooked.

It's already cooked. It's just some type of white fish. I'd really spend the extra money and buy the lump crab meat. There is no comparison in taste between the two.

chop it up and make some crab dip.

or use it to make some crab cakes. yummy.

if your question is how to use imitation vs. real, then the answer is that there is no difference. use imitation exactly like how you would the real deal.

Just chop it up and put it in your mini crock pot with some creamcheese, chopped green onion and a bit of salt & pepper! Makes a yummy dip - fantastic with Triscuits!
